I'm also colour blind and I'm not afraid to work around electricity. I am careful as heck, though. I can generally tell which wires are black, red, white, and green but I use a meter anyway just to be sure.
Colour blindness occurs more frequently in males than in females but the girls can get it. Red green is most common in men and blue/green is most common in women (my ex-********** had it). I'm really lucky; I flunk the tests for both red/green and blue/green.
I used the c-o-l-o-u-r spelling in deference to a northern neighbor. The correct spelling depends on where you are. We Yanks spell it c-o-l-o-r and used spelled instead of spelt (of course, most non-Yanks feel we quit using English years ago).
