Storing TPMS sensors when not in use

On another thread, Woodworker brought up something interesting I never thought of before. He wrote: “As I was repackaging my TPMS System back intp the original packaging to keep it until I use it...”

How many of you remove your tire sensors when not in use?

I’ve been leaving mine on. Theft is not an issue for me.

I’ve been leaving mine on too. No theft...yet.

I remove mine if we are parked for a month or more. If the sensors are removed it prolongs the battery life.

I thought that the sensors only draw battery if in motion?

It was my understanding that as long as they are installed they will take a reading which in turn drains the batteries quicker

I’d never thought of that, but it does makes sense.

I have left mine on since installing them 2 years ago. When one finally dies (which one did at about 18 months), I replaced the batteries in all 4. Batteries are cheap enough, and theft is not something I'm worried about either.

I leave mine on. I’ve had them about a year now on the original batteries. Tireminder sent spare batteries at no charge.

See now ya'll are giving me a complex! Hey I got an idea. I could leave em on and just remove an rebox tires an all. Ya that's it!! Problem solved. I can leave the sensors on and feel like I'm doin right by boxing everything up together.
Thank you!!

Just got back today from our 1st trip using the TST 507, installed 'em late last week, and removed today. Still got some "programming" to do on these things. LOL. Dang alarm will wake the dead. LOL

I always leave them on and I change batteries every 2 years. Works so far.

Happy RVing,
Jeff

I have the TST 507's with pass through and remove once I stop moving upon setup and breakdown. My batteries lasted about 18 months from new and now I am on the second season with the replacements.

One of my "pit crew" does the duty, so it's an easy task for us.

I store them in a pencil case in the center console.

My receiving unit is hardwired in the cab and never gets stored.

The sensors get new batteries at the start of each season, and then stay on until the rig goes to bed for the winter.

This makes sense. After all, unlike the sensors installed in new vehicle tires, we can change our batteries at will.
