The Class A Motorhome You Might Have Owned in 1960

You have to see it to believe it. The MSRP was $8,978.00.

Seats six, but sleeps four. "Sorry, kids. You'll have to sleep out under the stars again." "Ah, mom, it's raining tonight!" "Listen! Your father sold everything he had to get this and, by golly, he's going to enjoy it!"

Haha, sorry; first thing to come to mind.

Neat to think this was available back then. Wonder how much success it actually had?

I remember reading an article in Popular Science around that era of time about a test drive of Dodge’s new motorhome they were introducing.

UPDATE: Found the article and attached it to this post

10.5 mpg cruising at 60 mph. At least some things have stayed the same with motorhomes over the last 60 years.

This all brings back memories. I remember seeing one of the Dodge motorhomes going down the street, thinking I'd really like to own one of those. I was 9 years old!

On to the GMCs, now into my 20s...boy, would I like to have one of THOSE! Front wheel drive, and a 455 Oldsmobile drive train. Now those are collectors items. Who woulda thunk it!!

Not a class A, but my first camping experience was in a 1972 Dodge Sportsman Class C that my uncle purchased when they moved to California. Traveling through California in 1979 in that motorhome was an experience I will always remember.
