The importance of a circle check
I just got back from my walk and on my walk I saw a TT go past me with the steps down and the door latched open.. I tried to catch up to the drive or get his attention but he was not checking his mirrors..
So remember folks circle check your vehicle just before you pull out

Good advice. I once left a rest stop with the steps down as explained in the "Most Boneheaded RV moments" thread.

I have chased down a few with the tv antenna up too. I won't get in to the many screw-ups I have had.

Once last winter I found myself driving in a 4 or 5 lane interstate, with tight lanes (forget the city), and happened to see my steps were down. That was a nerve wracking experience.
You'd a thunk I learned my lesson, but I did it again crossing Colorado last week. Not the whole state, mind you, but for a few miles after I took a "rest" stop. Luckily, that time it was rural interstate, so it wasn't as bad.
Never left the door open. Yet.
I've gotten in the habit of checking the sway bar clips every time before I get in the truck (those things might be just what someone needs), look and the spring bars and chains to make sure they are attached, check the TT tires for damage and wheels for heat. I just don't always check the steps. :hihi:

I agree. Always, always, always check that your trailer is towable before starting up, even if you've stopped only briefly. I know from personal experience the importance of this. Did someone drop a landing leg? Mess with the rear stabilizer jacks? Not put the steps up, or did I forget to latch a basement? Maybe you have a bulge on a tire?
An important aspect of safety for me is to remember that my trailer is first and foremost a vehicle and it must be safe to tow. All the other (many) issues that a trailer can have involving comfort and convenience are secondary to making sure it is a safe vehicle.

We have the double check rule going on with Don/my buddy team. Neither is offended when we re-check the other on for example like on the hitch hook-up and we both do a "circle check". Also, while one or the other pulls out of site, the other stays behind to watch it leave. Great way to make sure we didn't leave Breezi behind also! That's when we do the rear light check too.
We left camp once when someone flagged us down. Our antenna wasn't down all the way (my bad!). I didn't want to overcrank it down, so when it felt snug, I assumed it was down all the way. We even double check that now
