I joined a couple of years after I turned 50, but never really saw any benefit from it, so dropped. Still get constant flyers to buy their insurance.
Funny thing is, now my Medicare supplemental is with the AARP program, but it's through my retirement medical benefit from Alcoa. I had no control over that. I can't complain... without that my wife's health insurance would be astronomical, because she is a melanoma survivor (more than 10 years cancer free) and insurance companies take one look and run away screaming (most won't insure her at any price). As my wife and as part of the retirement benefit, she is automatically eligible at the standard spousal rate.
