Trees - some good, some not so good

At a park in North Carolina that is fairly nice ... in our opinions. Nice tree cover/shade in most parts. That is good at times and not so good at times depending on the weather and tree condition. Well, early this AM, we were awoken by a very long BANG/BOOM...oh no...one of the trees, up at the top was dying and one of the limbs broke off and nailed the roof on the back left side... luckily it missed the AC... AND didn't puncture the roof... it was only about an inch or two in diameter and about three foot long... but made such a loud noise I was sure the roof was damaged and the lime was huge...
so as others have stated in other threads/posts, be cautious of parking under or in the trees....

My favorite spot in our go to campground is right by the river and near several very large old maple trees. As much as I like the view from that spot, I am always nervous about those old trees.

I prefer never to park under trees. We stayed at a park that had huge Eucalyptus trees that gave us lots of shade. I did not realize that the leaves drop Eucalyptus oil constantly. The first time I washed the roof it was covered in dirt spots that I could not ever get clean. Same with my truck.

I Northern CA I parked under Sugar pine trees that had huge cones, some over a foot long. The wind would blow them loose and one hit the roof and put a hole in it. Relocated to another spot with no trees.

I also discovered a low hanging tree branch gives Squirrels a perfect pathway to the roof of the RV. Not a pleasant sound hearing them scampering around the roof at 5 in the morning!

For me; No Trees please!

We had a site in Gettysburg under a black walnut tree when we had a pop up. Besides waking us up when they hit the roof, the dog would bark just to make SURE we woke up, then there were the stains wherever they hit. Not as bad as branches dropping, just more frequent. It was a LONG two week stay. We do laugh about it now.

I was thinking the OP was going to say he was parked under a Pecan tree and it was dropping nuts all night long (use to live in NC, and they would close CG for pecan picking).

Here in Minnesota, I would say it is very rare that we can even find a spot that is not tree covered. We have had are fair share of limbs and sticky sap fall onto the HTT, including the bunk ends, so far no damage.

I do agree JFlightRisk, that Walnut trees are the worst. Neighbors surrounding my place have 4, 1 hangs over the TT when in the driveway. All year it is always dropping something, this time of year it is nuts, and they are loud, and leave nasty stains on every thing. I washed and waxed the TT a month ago, and it is covered in a brown goo. I will stay this way until spring.

In this part of the country you can tell the visitors. They are the ones with their vehicles parked in the sun. Any shade here and locals are parked in it. Really does not matter whether you are in the desert or mountains. Our sun is pretty warm all year round.

Forget about camping in Maine.
The most forested state in the US
Rare not to be under trees
However AC is rarely needed

This one was a VERY 'not so good' one. This greeted us on our arrival to reserved site in mid-June. Our site was just to the left of this stump, and clearing operations were already underway when we arrived. It just missed the trailer that you can see beyond, but there were two other (thankfully!) empty sites under the tree!

We camped there again a few weeks later and you couldn't even tell this had happened; just a patch of fresh sod.

Update

After closer look this AM when I was able to get to the roof and sweep off the leaves/limb debris, the limb hit the back corner of the RV and left a small two inch break in the fiberglass back corner...will have that looked at when we stop at the next extended stay....
