Two Campers I Saw Last Month
I was going through some of my recent pictures when I found pictures of 2 campers I saw last month.
This one came down from Quebec. It was in the CG and when I saw it out shopping I had to take a pic. Unfortunately, I didn't get a pic when the top was open.
This one was driving around the park until it pulled in across from me. We were actually just going home when it came in. As you can see, it was driving all along as you see it.
I also spotted the below product while shopping. I don't know if it's the BEST thing ever or the WORST thing ever. lol

Yea, don't think bacon toothpaste would improve my kissability much, but might attract some bears. Not sure if that would be good, especially at the time a year or so ago when we had a black bear from Shenandoah NP visit us, right on the deck outside the bedroom door. As to the camper pics, the first one looks like a '63 VW camper I helped restore a while back. As I remember, the hardest part was removing and replacing the canvas tent material that is exposed when the rear top panel raises up. A real "bear" to do. On the other camper - is this some kind of modification that uses full rigid windows in a permanently raised pop-up ? If so, it's an interesting way to make your own homemade hybrid. Pretty good workmanship on the owner's part.

For the VW camper picture, I can see in the top left corner of the back, it's a Westfalia model. This line of specialized VW vans have been in production right up until recent years. We see a fair number of them here in Ontario. Have a look at this link;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westfalia
and also;

Tinlizzie23, I'm surprised that being close to retirement that you don't recognize the Apache popup!! I'm a 46 year old kid and I remember how popular the Apache's were in their day! Back in the 1970's they were the cadillac of popups. They had vacuum formed plastic panels with real glass windows in them that folded out when you slide the bunks out. Apaches were quite ahead of their time back then and it's sad that the principle never caught on with other manufacturers.
The closest thing I've seen to the Apache was made by Palomino who had bi-fold hard sides over the box area that would deploy as you raise the roof. The sides had real glass windows with screens We had one of those before moving on to the 23B.
The VW Westfalia's have also been around since the early VW "buses" came out. They are mostly used by hippies with flowers on the dashboard.

I have seen a few of those hard sided Apache pop-ups. I always thought they were a good idea.

Sorry, McFarmall, I had just never seen any of these Apache units in my area of the country before. Maybe I was blind or something, but just never saw one. Your description explains the great professional workmanship. My early camping days were primarily with either modified cars or small enclosed campers, like Scottys or early Fleetwoods. Fact is, I don't remember seeing my first popup until around the mid 70's or so. Could it be that senility is setting in ??

Man that Apache pic really brings back memories for me!
My dad had one and it was top notch for a pop-up! It truly gave you that hard walled trailer feeling!

Dad had one of those when I was young. It was orange. We litterally wore it out, and could not get parts since they stopped making them at the time. Great memories.

That VW camper is from the mid-late 80's, water cooled engine. Nice Westfilia but prefer the aircooled pre-79' ones. That Apache is pretty neat, bacon toothpaste not so much lol.
