Van Camping

Does anyone else here do any van camping? We are going to be heading out to one of my daughters dance competitions next weekend and there isn't a campground anywhere near close to bring the trailer. So, we will be bring the van with us. I doubt if we will overnight in it but I will definately be killing some time on those long days inside.

We picked up a passenger van several years ago to transport my severly disabled mother. But, we quickly found other uses for it including as a weekend escape vehicle. There has been nothing special that I've really done to our van. This will be our 4th summer with it and I've added a cheap inverter, a portable toilet, a couple of air mattresses, and we will bring along a camp stove and a cooler.

Anyone else here ever venture in to van camping or have a van that you have converted?

Along time ago, I had slept many nights in the back of PU trucks or in the back of a suburban. The one thing I really remember was how hot and humid it was inside the vehicle, and if you opened the windows, the bugs seamed to come in for a free meal.

I would recommend some type of window screen for a door or a window to help keep the place a little more comfortable.

Happy car camping!

This reminds me of a situation I had years ago. Making love on a beach always sounded great, then you realize one grain of sand an kill the mood...what seems like a great idea, after a while, isn't so great after all.
I've seen some really expensive, conversion vans over the years. The only issue I have is, bathing facilities and not having to put the bed up and take it down and just overall lack of space. When weather is bad, no real place to get away from it all.
For a day or two I'm sure it would be great, but, at this point In my life, I like a few more creature comforts....water, toilet, shower, recliner, refrigerator, range, space etc.. 50 years ago.. who knows, I may of been next to you.
Were lucky we live in a country where everyone is free to choose what works for them.

Happy Camping !

Me an the wife slept on an air mattress in the back of my Ramcharger at the Daytona races in July waaaay back in the day. I am assuming now that it was the consumption of beverage that seems to of made it not too bad for the night. But if I recall I ended up buying another tent for the following year.
