A little bit of history- today is 11/11/11. But Veterans day comes from another 11/11/11. The Armistice effectively ending WWI was signed on The eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month, 1918. This became Armistice Day and later Veterans Day.

Veterans, here is a little known fact when sailing on a cruise ship. When booking your cruise, ask about how you can receive from $50 - $250 shipboard credit to spend as you like. Anyone who has served in the military in Canada or the USA qualify. Those who have been honorably discharged, retired, or currently active are eligible! We are loyal to Carnival and Princess cruises and I know for certain both offer this "Thank you for serving" opportunity to veterans.

I agree. Now all that needs to be done is to convince some politicians that they owe the vets.

And don't forget Remembrance Day for us here in Canada and throughout what was called the British Empire. A little trivia for you, Canada and the United Kingdom are the only countries who display the Poppy as a tribute to the fallen.

Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day, Armistice Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries since the end of World War I to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. The day was specifically dedicated by King George V on 7 November 1919 as a day of remembrance of members of the armed forces who were killed during World War I. The red remembrance poppy has become a familiar emblem of Remembrance Day due to the poem "In Flanders Fields". These poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I, their brilliant red colour an appropriate symbol for the blood spilled in the war.

Through the years my kids have always called and thanked me on Veterans for my military service, but this year really caught me off guard. Today, I received a card from my daughter (a nurse) and she has always had a way of expressing her feelings, like no one else I know. I am sharing her card with you, I hope you can read it OK... One day I will figure out how to enlarge the pictures I post. She probably should write for Hallmark...
