Well PHOOEY!

Just had to cancel our New Year's trip to the coast

Terrible weather is blowing through Texas the next couple days. Strong wind, cold, rain... So we decided to re-evaluate and re-group and ended up being able to re-schedule.

The cold doesn't bother me too much, nor does the rain, but that wind would NOT be fun towing conditions. And when you throw it in the pot with the cold and the rain, makes for miserable travel weather. I had thought we could beat the front down to the coast and just ride it out when we got there, but the forecast has changed, so no bueno!

Silver lining is we'll get to go to the "South Texas RV Super Sale" in San Antonio this weekend. And the RV Park was nice enough to not smack us with a $100 change fee.

Must be the same weather system that's hitting Arizona. We have friends that are snowbirding southwest of Phoenix and they're freezing their butts off.

Yep, I'm wintering over in the Ingram/Kerrville area and they are forecasting some freezing rain early Thursday.

I too had plans to take the trailer to Port Aransas for New Years Eve, scrapped it for now, we instead booked a hotel in Corpus Christi for the night. Maybe I'll bump into you at the RV show on the weekend

Eek, it's supposed to be pretty bad up in the Hill Country; freezing precip, accumulation, ice... The whole ball game... That's bad down here 'cause we are NOT equipped for that kind of weather.... If I'm you, I'm making sure the fridge and pantry are stocked and there are plenty of DVDs cued up, I wouldn't want to go anywhere in that mess.

Good luck, and stay warm!

Yeah, a Hotel is probably the way to go if you have to be out...

Maybe so. We should have someone come up with a ball cap or a "morale" patch or something so we can find each other at places other than campgrounds. That reminds me, I guess since I'm not going anywhere, I should order my JOF sticker...

...... and it's already started here in the Hill Country. We've had a constant 'drizzle' last night and throughout the day thus far, ice has been building up on some surfaces as well..., the TT's metal steps are glazed over.

Even the TV is seeing a little.......,

Bob

Seeing Kerrville on the news, looks bad through there on I-10. I guess I'm kind of glad we decided to call it off this weekend. Cuddling here on the couch with my infant son is just about the best way to spend the evening!

Gosh, Bob, that looks terrible compared to the weather we're having in the Fayette Ridges of PA. It's cold, but it's dry.

We have had so much rain in the past few weeks at my home base I was sure I would be driving in it to my winter host position yesterday. I really lucked out. The rain stopped yesterday morning about 5:30am and the sun was out as soon as it came up. All I got a little wet was my feet while hooking up.

Straight ahead of my site is a little dip that doesn't have gravel in it and it was wet and soft. I really didn't want to back through this area and then drive back threw it towing my 5'er. Even with 4 wheel drive I was concerned it might sink. I had always heard it was possible to hook up a fifth wheel other than directly in front, but I had never done it, but this was the time to explore the option. So I backed in at approx a 30 degree angle which would keep my truck on hard ground and also allow me to get the 5'er around the low spot when I drove off. I was very careful backing in taking is very slow an adjusting the pin box height several times to fine tune where it needed to be. All worked and nothing was damaged. Here is a picture after I hooked up. I was rather pleased with myself and I drove out with no mud issues.

The rest of the short trip to my new host position was nice and sunny an dry.
