I woke up to a water heater that kept blowing the 2 amp fuse. Pulled the control board and put the multimeter to it. It’s dead, Jim. I ordered a replacement Dinosaur brand from A’zon.

Well I did something to my camper that I've never done in 8 years of ownership. I've never fired up my furnace and after all the furnace problems I've read about here I got curious as to whether mine worked or not especially after sitting dormant for 8 years. Took my little Champion Inverter generator down to the storage unit and plugged in the camper. Slid the slides out to expose all heat vents and turned on the heat. Fan came on first and then the furnace fired right up with nice even heat coming from all vents. Ran it for 10 minutes and the inside temp went from 55* to 65*. Now I can rest easy. Furnace is an Atwood. Of course, maybe I should try the oven next which also hasn't ever been used.

I have a question and don't know what topic this would fit under the different forums. I don't like stopping so often to fill up my F350 Super Duty truck pulling my Jayco 39KPTS. I have considered adding an auxiliary fuel tank in the bed of my truck but my question is:Would the added weight of the extra fuel destroy my fuel mileage? The convenience would be great but I don't want to reduce my fuel mileage I get.......

You’re already towing a trailer so you fuel mileage is probably around 10 mpg. Adding an auxiliary tank is not going to affect your mileage. Only thing you need to consider is the added weight when the tank is full.

A gal if diesel weighs a little over 7# if I remember correctly. So, a little over 350# for every 50 gal plus the weight of the tank, etc. That little bit of weight would be negligible in the scheme of things.

The additional 350# is such a small increase in overall weight that it should not impact mileage to a noticeable degree. It will impact the total payload and stopping distances. That being said if you get 10mpg and have 25 gal already that means you still are driving more than 4 hours between fuel stops. Is it really desirable to sit in that rig for longer? I LIKE getting out every couple hours.

Just because the truck claims to have a 25 gallon tank doesn’t mean it can actually hold all 25 gallons. Probably closer to 22-23. That means 3 hours of drive time if you can find a station. That means that you start looking around 2 hours of driving. That’s kinda a PITA. That’s why I added my aux tank....so I can stop for fuel when I want to, not because I need to. Heck, my current truck has a 48 gallon tank and I transferred my aux tank from the old truck for that reason. In many areas out in West Texas the “next” gas station may over an hour away.

With a 50-gallon auxiliary, I average 12 mpg in my 20 y.o. diesel through the mountains here in the West. Granted it’s not a heavy TT, but I’m satisfied. There’s great comfort in knowing I can be picky about what stations to fill at and have 800 miles to do it. Even better, I don’t have to drag the rig through a station. Just find fuel after we unhitch for the night.

Yesterday between rain squalls I did the monthly generator maintenance run. Today is a bit nicer so hooked up the hose and gave it a good washing to get rid of some of the black streaks that were starting to show. I must say after 6 months the Turtle Wax Ice Seal n Shine is still beading like the day I put it on. I found a small opening in the caulk on one of the upper corners of the cap where it meets the trim strip across the top of the cap so plugged that with some Dicor No-Sag.

2naEagle, I installed one of those in my BIL's TT last summer! It's so cool at night! I wish I'd seen those before I replaced my own faucet.
