I had always tent camped. My wife had NEVER camped. our first two outings resulted in horrific storms that flooded our tents and tested my wife's faith in camping. The third trip was 95 degree nights. I knew this was just part of the camping experience, but she vowed to never camp again. I started looking at pup's, then hybrids, then settled on our 2007 29X. Our family of 5 loves the TT and I'm glad we went big to start. My wife likes the A/C, heat, bathroom, and real bed, and I still get to be outdoors, grill, and enjoy all of the other aspects of camping.

We had a Montana 32ft 5th wheel. More than once I have wished we still had our money and Montana back. It is not every day one trades down.

We rented a PUP once a year for our "big" trip and tent camped the rest of the time. It was hard to convince my wife to look at TTs when I first brought the idea up but now she loves ours!

Nothing.

We rented a class C to see if we'd enjoy the RV experience and all I needed to hear from my wife after we got home from our first trip was "so when is our next trip?".

From there we spend about a year researching what we wanted, needed, could afford, could tow with my current TV and store on our property. Ended up with a 23', 3500 lbs TT and so far have put 4,000 miles and 30 nights in it over the last 16 months.

Pardon me for slipping this post into this thread. That's a good story, 2edgesword. Renting has been recommended before in this forum, and IMO it's a good idea. The way you went about it took all the "impulse" out of the purchase. There would be more satisfied customers with that approach.

First was a tent for one summer, then a 2002 Viking 2575 PUP for 9 yrs, purchased a 2011 Jayco 26RLS and traded it in after 2yrs for our current Eagle. Love the new unit.

What did you have before your current RV?

Not sure if I answered or not but we had two tents. First tent was huge but we were out of it during a tornado warning ( 4 hours from home), came back to our campsite to find tent wrapped around tree. We left right then and went home. We liked camping so we bought another tent but never really got to use it because we found our first popup.

I had a little pop up tent. Last time I used it the wind blew, it blew down and I stayed in a hotel. A couple of years later I bought my Jayco and will never go tenting again.
