What people will do for scrap metal

I `ve heard what people will do for scrap metal, cutting off catalytic converters, stealing heat pumps, removing copper pipes from houses etc. But robbing a war grave.... They must be very determined and well equipped to remove, raise and steal items like propellers and armor plate from a sunken battleship but some were recently caught in the act:

Our dealer had all of the power cords (those that were accessible) cut and stolen from his trailers.

I used to work for a RV dealer in the parts dept.
A couple of times I had customers come in saying their cords had been cut off and stolen during winter storage. I suggested retrofitting their camper with a power cord that plugs into the side of the camper. That way the cord could be removed and locked up when the camper is not being used. If that proved to be too costly, my next suggestion was to get a 30' extension cord, cut off the female end and hard wire it to the camper just like the original one before it.

This wasn't too far from here.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Reese was found last Sunday badly burned, bleeding and naked near the Ameren IP substation on Cut Street in Alton, Illinois.

We are currently having issues at one of our residential rental buildings with thieves stealing copper water supply and drain lines in front of our cameras. We have been hit twice in the last two days with the second time after we repaired the pipes....next one, we will will be sitting there with a baseball bat....

Sadly it happens all the time, our lady of the wayside automotive sales got hit for 18 catalytic converters in one night....also 1990's Honda Civics and Jeep Cherokees are hot items along with late 90's to early 2000's dodge vans. I take these reports on a semi regular basis at work especially for the above mentioned vehicles. One of the Honda thefts was caught on camera it took the dirtbag 57 seconds to make entry, punch the ignition start the Civic and drive off. Starting to see the club on these vehicles and have yet to take a report from a person who had one in use.

A baseball bat is being to kind.... just a thought if you have cameras you might be able to determine exactly what and where they touch if that is the case local law enforcement might be able to pull a fingerprint. Chances are the culprit is hitting other buildings and not just yours, if you get him other people will not become victims at least for a while until said scumbag gets back out if he gets caught just my 2 cents.

We've had instances around here of people taking Man Hole covers. What kind of ass would do that? Times are tough for many but leaving a huge gaping hole in the road? That's just wrong on any level.

There is an even lower level of scumbag... Those that steal the urns off of cemetery plots for the scrap metal.

I work for the natural gas company up here in BC and we have lots of copper theft issues in vacant/renovation houses. These crackheads are too stupid to even turn the gas off before cutting the lines out, then the house fills with gas.. Then I have to respond to it and put my life at risk trying to investigate and control the gas. A house full of gas is a ticking bomb..

We had 200 batteries get stolen from a school bus depot around these parts. Lots of kids waiting in the freezing winter temps for school buses that weren't coming....
