Take your plug into farm type hardware. You need 3 items maybe $20.00
Buy a nylon nipple type adapter same size and thread as the plug but adapts to the tank end stainless steel type hose used from shut off to toilet tank. 8 - 12 inch long is plenty
Buy a stainless half turn shutoff
Install adapter, hose and shutoff on drain.
No wrench needed
Run the water out away from side of trailer so less water mess.

YMMV

And leave all the sludge in the tank below the centerline of the smallest fitting.

Well so far never had that issue
But then I have a whole house style water filter on the inlet to trailer.

I’ve always pulled the 15/16 plug to drain and about every time, thought adding a couple small fittings with a valve would prevent me from soaking my boots n socks . . . That is until last year when I decided to splurge for a tank rinse wand. The gunk that exited my <2 year old tank was surprising and yes, ours has a whole house filter on the supply side that’s changed every 90 days. Was the perfect cure for that mod idea.

good 1/2"drive socket set. Six point socket for the WH. 1 1/16" if Suburban. 15/16" 0r 7/8" if Atwater. (depending on the model) and a Universal joint.

I'm a bit confused about this post. Are you trying to change a tire or drain your water heater? I assume both.
Get rid of the plastic get a Camco water heater drain valve PN CAM11703.

As for a lug wrench, get a long breaker bar and an impact socket of the appropriate size. Different RVs have different size lugs. The X shaped 4-way lug wrenches are too short. My camper takes a 3/4" socket for the lug nuts, which is conveniently the same size as the nuts on the stabilizer legs but the spare tire takes a 13/16 wrench.

The sludge is made by the tank. filter does not help.

Buy a water heater drain valve from Amazon and change it once. Never have to remove it again. $9. You can't get a socket on a lot of them anyways.

Get one of these, inexpensive, well made, and comes with 4 replacement plugs and thread tape.

I have to admit that I've been toying with the idea of installing an extended drain valve on my Atwood WH for quite a few years now. The reason I haven't and probably won't is because of what some of the above posters have stated about 'sludge". Although mine isn't sludge, it's calcium deposits that come out in fairly large pieces that aren't going through a 1/4'' tube. If you've ever given your water heater a good rinse, you'll know what I'm talking about. I drain my WH after each trip and I have a small plastic plate that I wedge up under the drain so the water drains to the ground and not all over everything except my shoes sometimes.

We have a Jayco X17Z and the only socket I could find that fit properly on the hot water heater nut was a 24mm.

Hope this helps.
