This is what you get from low-bid contractors.

I have always stuck a meter in an outlet when using 30 amp just to check voltage and I also cross check the netural to ground just to make sure it's not floating. I have seen some with a lose connection but never one with a hot netural. Thanks for the heads up.

Just tied it up! I bought a TRC Surge Guard 34730 portable EMS. Never had a problem (that I know of) in 10 years of camping, but you guys got me to thinking it would be a good idea.

I check for proper connections
I made a simple test rig out of a 30 amp to 15 amp adapter and a plug in outlet tester. It will check for proper connections, open ground, reversed hot/neutral. I also check the voltage with a volt meter before connecting. It takes an extra minute to do these checks. So far We've not found any issues at any of the campgrounds we've stayed in.

I'll qualify my "I never check" response with a "yet". As soon as I have the scratch, I will install a Progressive Industries EMS hard-wired.

Here's why I don't want a hardwired unit. This would be inside your unit after a hit

I've never had damage that I know of with or without an EMS. I can verify that my EMS has shut down my power supply because of under voltage (below 104) and over voltage (above 132); without the EMS, my system would have been subjected to those problems.
I have noticed that some campground power pedestals seem funky or worn out. I'm glad that my EMS is there to protect against bad grounds and reversed neutrals as well.

Not really fair. We boondock so:
A) I keep the genset running properly for when we camp.
B) The barn/shop has it's own transformer on the pole. The trailer will be least of my worries if something goes afoul there.
