What was first power tool you had?

Electric drill. Case was steel. Two prong plug.

Cannot remember that far back, but I would think an electric drill. Had to be back in 1965.

I have an old metal case skil drill. What makes it unique as far as I am concerned is that the power head is removable and you can put it on another tool like a circular saw which I have as well. I just used it about six months ago down at our other property where it sits. 1/4 turn the head comes off and you just attach it to one of several other attachments like a circular saw, sander or jigsaw. Next time I am down there I will take a picture of it. Never seen another one like it. I think it is from early to mid 60's. They are still in their original boxes.

First electric tool I recall having, was an old greenish/brown jig saw, my dad gave me. I would guess I was 10 at the time.

Many have mentioned electric drills and I bet 90% of them were 3/8” maximum chuck capacity. Not sure if the 1/2” drills even existed back then.

I stand corrected! Just went out and cleaned the ID plate. 3/8 inch. Geez , only took me 50 years to find out what size drill I have. Thanks 16WhiteColly !!

Yeah, I think it was a Makita drill. I was working in auto dealerships, ahem, stealerships, as a detail specialist and I was quite interested in the mechanic's tools; really in awe, actually.

3/8" Black and Decker drill. Still have it, still runs strong. Second was a Craftsman 7 1/4" circ saw. Still have it but it sits on a shelf. Much rather use my Porter Cable 6" Saw Boss, or the new Ryobi Cordless 5 1/2" circ saw.

As much as I like and use the cordless line of everything, there are times that a "tool with a tail" is still the way to go!

Montgomery Ward 3/8" chuck power drill.

I let all the smoke out of it many years ago, therefore I had to replace it.

Friend of mine had a steel cased SawsAll with the same setup. One day, while I was helping him work on his house, his arm brushed up against some of his copper piping while using the aforementioned SawsAll. That day, I learned some new French cuss words to add to my cuss word repertoire.

I have one Montgomery Ward tool, a bench grinder that I bought in 1971, when I went to work for them on my first job. That has been the best tool ever. Also have a Dwell/Tach, Timing Light, Compression Gage, Fuel Pressure Gage, and Engine Analyzer that I bought in a big kit, when I worked in the automotive parts department.
