Who remembers S&H green stamps?

They were given out in the food store for buying food.

My mom saved them for several years. Then we went to redemption center in Iron Mountain, Mi. She found a family tent, camp stove, lantern, and lots of other things for camping. This was the start of my love for camping. At the time I was 7 years old this was the 60ies now I'm in my 60ies and still love it but now pull a 5 star hotel behind me.

Oh yeah. I remember my dad had a coffee can full of them. I also remember going to the redemption center. I was probably about 4 or 5 then.

That was one of my jobs as a kid too. I got smart quick and used a dampened sponge instead of licking them.

I remember going with my mom to a redemption store in Corpus Christi, TX in the early 80s. If I remember correctly, you had to have book of them to get just a small item.

Yeah, but it was in such a decline by then that not that many people we're doing it. Where I live I don't think any of the local stores were even participating anymore.

My best memory was after a few years of putting stamps in the books I finally got to bring a huge Tonka steel dump truck home. The redemption center was right next to the grocery store.

Growing up my parents would load my brother and I up and head out on a camping trip or some other travel trip, usually without telling us where we were going. We had a lot of fun looking at the map and trying to figure out where we were going. Lots of good memories of Sinclair gas stations, many with their Dinosaur statues, and of course the S&H Green stamps.

My mother also collected Blue Chip Stamps, along with the S&H Green stamps. I don't think they were as popular as the Green Stamps. That was back in much simpler times.

Then there were gas stations luring customers with free dishes and silverware, and all kinds of other goodies, just for buying their gas....and that's when it was like 30 cents a gallon to boot.

Oh, Tonka trucks! That was when they were made of steel and virtually indestructible, I loved my big dump truck!

My mother collected them from the grocery store, brother and I had to "put 'em" in the books but we never got anything for our efforts that I remember. I worked at a full service gas station while in high school (class of '73) and the station would give the stamps out as well. Women got really ticked off if you forgot to give them to them, even the men would ask for them (brownie points).

Heck, my first job at a A&P Tea Co grocery store was a stocker / cashier (1963). We gave out Plaid stamps, similar to S&H Green stamps. We got Green stamps with everything from food to gas. Between Green stamps, Plaid stamps , and Chesterfield coupons, my dad got all his tools (mostly junk) and we kids (10) would rotate who got the next "gift" on redemption days. Good old days, other than the Chesterfields killing the old man at 57.

Gold Bond stamps and S & H Green stamps provided many things in our house that we may not have had without them Les

Put Top Value Stamps in the mix and how about the Tax stamps many states gave out when you bought something that had sales tax on it.

Same here. Finally got smart and dabbed them on a wet sponge to paste them in the book.
