Winter BY Nature
I live in south central Indiana. Last night I was having a beer at the local pub and was talking to this guy next to me about the upcoming winter and how he thought it was going to be. First thing he asked me is if I've seen any Hornets nests and how high they were off the ground. Saw 2, about 12-14 ft high. He replied "snows not going to be deep this year". Then he asked me about the fuzzy caterpillars that you see crossing the road and wanted to know about the width of the black/orange colors on them. I said they're just black/orange/black. Apparently if there's more black than orange, winters going to be colder. Finally he talked about Persimmon Tree seeds. He said they're spoon shaped this year which means lots of snow. I've only lived in the "country" about 5 years, spending most of my life in Indianapolis, Seattle and Boise. Is there any merit to what this guy is telling me, or is it just a bunch of hoo-haa.
