Winterizing propane system

My trailer only has one propane tank and it's almost empty. Does anyone know where I can get a nice single propane tank and regulator cover to protect it over winter? I've looked on the internet and they seem to only make double covers. Also, I've read that I should fill it before storing it. Is that true?
And what do they mean when saying "Wrap plastic or other material around the burners, closing them off with twist ties or tape" when winterizing propane tanks?

Spiders will nest in propane fittings, burners and other areas which will lead to some issues down the line with clogging. In most cases a sealed burner will not have an area for them to access. You grill fittings usually have screens on them and this is exactly why. I leave my tanks connected to prevent this but in the off posistion.
Inside you can wrap the burners if you like but it's a matter of personal prefference. If you have a known spider problem in your storage area then you might want to consider this. A barn might be a good example of this since you are inside and they might already be present in the barn making your second area of protection even more appealing to them. Mice too so consider some snap traps. Better to find a dead dried up mouse then your cushions or cabinets riddled with holes. Dryer sheets do not work and keep as much of your landing gear up as possible to keep paths to a minimum.

Just leave the tank on and hooked up. Turn off the tank valve and you are good for the winter.

I have never "winterized" my propane system...well I camp all year long so what would be the point. I have not had a problem with spiders.

Agree with the advice above. As for filling your tank, yes, filling it will reduce the interior condensation area by minimizing the space filled with gas as opposed to liquid.

There is no condensation on the inside of a lp tank. When first filled the air is purged from the tank along with the moisture. Condensation can not form because LP gas boils at -44F which is how we get the vapor to use in the appliances, any mositure would be instantly frozen and since it is a sealed system the outside atmosphere can't get in the tank. Filling for the winter is optional, it may be cheaper now than in the spring depending on how cold the winter is.

Long long ago when I had to winterize I would light a stove top burner then go outside and shut off the propane.. letting the stove top burn itself out... this supposedly would remove any oil from the line that was in the propane.. remember to shut off the stove after the flame goes out..

Robo - thanks for the detailed explanation on condensation, or lack thereof. I was relying on information given to me by someone years ago whom I thought knew his stuff. Maybe he was referring to when a tank is completely emptied, with no outward gas pressure, and the valve is opened long enough to let air in ? Or is that not possible ?

You will get air gaps in the lines but if the tank is shut off the moisture will not get in especially since there is a positive pressure inside the tank. On the new OPT valve tanks (made after 08/98) even if the valve is on but there is no connection lp will not come out since the internal valve is not opened. On the old tanks they would empty even if not connected.
