I-70 in Indiana. Just returned from a 4600 mile trip and I still cannot forget Indiana. In any 1 mile segment, you will travel over 5 different types of Asphalt (at varying levels & slopes), 3-4 types of Concrete (same varying levels and slopes) and all associated cracks, loose gravel, & Potholes. Bridges are worse. I cringed at every Bridge joint as I felt the TV then the 5ver hit those Joints and sending both vehicles hurling skyward.

I'm assuming since large percentage of RVs are built in that state, they keep it that way to use it as a Test Track. Heck, I came back home thru Arkansas just to avoid Indiana

Just drove I-78 in PA last weekend. It smooth as glass compared to I-70 in Indiana.

We just returned from a 3000+ mile trip to Washington state. I think the road that stands out as the worst was Interstate 210 from about Sylmar to Pasadena, California.
We have to drive in the right lane in our state if pulling a trailer (except to pass) by state law. That far right lane was just horrible with the bumps. Never coming home on that freeway again unless we have to.

I think alot of perception might be what you are used to.. Not judging.. but we have frost heaves cracked pavement no shoulders and mostly dirt roads here.

You guys are giving me a laugh though! Keep em coming..

45 miles of single lane dirt road North of Gerlach, NV going into and through the Little High Rock Canyon out on a sheep hunt. Got stuck/hung up on a rear stabilizer jack on the my old 5er while crossing a wash out culvert. Spent four and half hours using a high lift jack and a hydraulic jack and a set of ATV ramps to raise the RV and the truck at incremental stages in order to build a 3 foot base to get out.
Had enough food, water, generator and extra gas for a 30 day hunt. 3 hours into opening morning, Bighorn sheep on the ground, hunts over. packed up the next morning and drove out. decided to hit the culvert with a good head of speed built up to get through it and when the 5er rear hit the lip of the culvert, it tore the rear stabilizers completely off.

Quality wise, Hwy 8 in Manitoba, about 20 miles between St. Andrews and the Petersfield turn-off, would be near the top of the list. They rebuilt it about 20 years ago, but the frost heaves have made it intolerable. Unfortunately, it's pretty much the only way to get to two of our favorite campgrounds. There are worse roads that I can think of, but you kind of expect a gravel road through a remote park in hilly and rocky terrain to be less than perfect.

Safety-wise, Hwy 6 has a reputation of the Highway of Death. We haven't been up there in a while, but every year there are news reports of car crashes with fatalities. You can count the markers on the side of the road; one of the worst incidences I remember involves three people of the same family, two cars, and one dark night. Very sad. More than once I've had to stand on the brakes to avoid an accident simply because some idiot wants to pass at the worst possible time. We don't go up there anymore.

I-95 around and especially south of DC gets my vote for the worst driving experience of all time. 30+ miles of beep and creep is not my idea of a good time. Had hoped for a lot better at midday on a Tuesday, didn't get it.

Horrible and scary all at the same time.
I did that drive just last week, though I was heading out of Victor toward Jackson.

I have to say it wasn't as bad as I expected (based on comments I've read on this and other forums), my exhaust brake got a good workout, and there are a few turns that make you want to clench a bit, but overall I was impressed by how well my rig handled it.

Going uphill definitely seems less stressful, but only because of the ease with which you can slow down when needed.

As for my nomination, the worst road we've been on this trip was the highway heading north to Laramie, WY out of Denver, CO. The expansion gaps make your teeth chatter something fierce!

X2!

Been there done that several times with just a minivan full of 2 kids an a spouse. DC area at any time of the day or night is a disaster! Even worse than NYC.

1) I-5 in Los Angeles area
1b) Most highways in Washington State

Both for the bumpy roads. US2 Stevens Pass has a couple dips where it feels like your combination will snap in two.

I95 from Newark to NYC at the I80 merge. All the connecting roads to the GWB and the cross Bronx or Major Degan Expys. There are potholes, ruts and joints through there that should have zip codes. Tappan Zee bridge gets me good too.

The other roads I hate are older cement expansion joint roads found throughout the US as that usually gets the rig chucking some.

Austin metro area is terrible. Rush hour pretty much is now all day long and lasts to about 8 at night...Construction is never ending. I35 should be avoided unless you are driving through at night...

+1, except for the qualification of driving through at night. I would avoid it then too. That road has been horrible for decades; and it's only getting worse!

A very short and temporary worst. SR3 through Tupper Lake NY is under construction. No warning signs, no offers of many easy detours, until you pull around a corner and are faced with a steep grade, completely torn up, rutted gravel surface, with a traffic light halfway up and no way out.

I hit that this spring and the light changed to red just after I started my ascent. Tried the best I could to waste the light while crawling up the rise, avoiding the potholes and barricades and oncoming traffic. But alas I had to pretty much stop at the light just as it turned green. Then came the problem of getting enough traction to get moving again. I did a great job of relocating a whole bunch of gravel with multiple attempts to get enough traction to get moving.
Was through there again last weekend, and there has been very little progress in 3 months, but now I know enough to detour around the mess on the still paved side streets. Watched a guy hauling a big 5er up the hill and said a little prayer for him.

Found a new one today:

Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park, Mesilla NM

Washboard dirt road into park. Was so bad we turned around halfway in. Never made it to the park itself.

Definitely Chaco Canyon for BAD, bumpy road. Highway 1/208 from Leggett to Fort Bragg is horrifying (in fact, all of Highway 1). For us, the worst is 1-80 across Wyoming, especially on a windy day (which is almost always) dueling with the semis (which is always).
