Worst Roads to Drive your RV On

Okay, what is your WORST ROAD EVER to drive or tow your RV on?

My candidate: Wyoming 22 from Jackson WY to Victor Idaho.

10% grade
no place to turn off once you commit...

Horrible and scary all at the same time.

One hundred miles or so of I-40 east of Oklahoma City.
This was several years ago now but it really was a chassis (shock) test road.

The 440 by-pass around Little Rock will beat you to death ....., better off using I-30 without any travel time loss.

TX SH 123 between Seguin, TX and Karnes City. It's got to be the most torn up piece of "asphalt" in the state. Potholes the size of a Volkswagen, patches on top of patches that have moved off leaving a giant pile AND a hole. AND it's just 2 lanes in most places, so there's no way around it. The only escape is to go about an hour out of the way to get to Interstate 37 coming out of San Antonio; and that's not great either.

We go down to Port Aransas frequently, and over the past 2 years it's gotten almost bad enough to eat the extra fuel and travel time to go around. Anyone in an oil boom area will understand. The tanker and gravel trucks absolutely destroy the infrastructure, and then when the boom is gone, the municipalities have spent the boom money on other things and have nothing left to repair the roads. It'll be years (if ever) before those roads are drive-able again...

30 miles of a freshly oil & graveled stretch of two lane. Even at 25 mph, the front of the trailer looked like it was hit with a thousand dents from a ball peen hammer. This was back in the 80s.

Nowadays, most interstates.

I-78 between Easton and Allentown PA. Stay out of the passenger lanes lest your TV bounce right off the hitch.

hmmm we towed on all but two and none were noteworthy. Try ME 17 between Rumford and Rangeley
Also the north entrance road to Chaco Canyon..

new state road in Florida Massachusetts between Savoy Mountain State Forest and Florida State Forest, it is a dirt road with wash-outs, ruts and bumps not even good for a 2 MPH speed limit. but it does open the drawers in the camper.

Wow, how could I forget NH 63 between Hinsdale and Chesterfield, NH. Roughest road I've ever towed on. Miserable drive. Either go through Brattleboro (not fun), or drive a few extra miles to use NH 10. 63 looks great on a map. Not.

Highway 20 east of Sioux City, IA. It looks like a nice road, but it has expansion cracks that line up perfectly with my truck/trailer combo. Darn near lost a filling before I finally exited down to I-80.

I-5 up by Seattle is a bad one too. We were bouncing so bad the wife made me pull over so she could put on a sports bra!

I recently got lost on our way home from a campsite in Columbia County (NY) - Wound up on a road called "Farmer Brown Rd" - Should have been my first clue. The 1 lane, winding twisting, narrowing road should have been my second clue but, we were following GPS which indicated we were just 1 turn away from being back on a main road and it was only another 1/4 mile BUT - The bright orange road sign indicating "Bridge Out 500 feet" forced a sudden sick feeling upon me!

My wife had to walk behind the camper in the pouring rain, as I backed up nearly a mile to a turn around that was JUST barely large enough to maneuver into.

Needless to say she was NOT a happy camper!

Other than that, I haven't had too many bad road experiences!

C'mon.. Celebrate New Englands frost heaves ( that never leave)
I could nominate the Sebomook road but if you are not from away you know better than take an RV on that.

The Golden Road in Maine is getting rough too.

My brother once took his 24' Jayco down snowmobile trail # 5 in Canaan, NH, so that has to be right up there. It took us 2 jacks, a ton of boards, and some creative thinking to get him over one particularly rocky section as it was impossible to back up or turn around.

The lesson here is don't always go where your GPS tells you to go!

I-22, US 78, I-55 through Memphis and West Memphis. Giant potholes and bouncing on the bridges!

Is the Cassiar Highway in BC still as bad as it was in the 80's/90's? Even in the early 90s the washboard on that "road" would make your car go sideways off the road towards the ditch. Only been on it in a car as a kid, but a family friend with a motorcoach informed us that it was horrendous up into the late 90s at least.

It's still that bad? I haven't been on it since '99 and back then it would make my dad's short wheel base 4x4 bounce all over the place, we all hated that stretch of I-5.

as of 2012 it was fine. But slow. Lots of construction going on.. It was a splendid road.

Now the Gold Camp out of Hyder... is another story

In central California highway 1/208 from Leggtt west to Fort Bragg it's extremely twisty with no shoulder actually quite dangerous. If you want to go to Mendocino the best approach is taking Cloverdale from the 101 and go up to Mendonico.
