Yellowstone trip

14 days, 4078 kms (2533 miles) and mostly great weather. I avoided the interstates on the way there as much as I could and kept it under 65 when I couldn't, truck pulled the trailer great and we are so happy we upgraded to the Ram last year, looks like I averaged about 13 MPG but my math is awful so don't quote me on that.

YNP was neat as always, our 22 month old loved all the "hot" "fish" or "ducks" (all water is fish or ducks and any mist, dust or cloud is hot)

Stayed 4 nights at Fishing Bridge which is the hard sided units only campground and the only place with hook-ups in the park. Pretty bare boned sites with no picnic table or fires allowed. 5 nights at Grant Village to the south so we could visit the ends of the park without driving all day.

We spent the first 5 nights with my parents at Grant and they bought us a Yellowstone Association membership. If you ever go to YNP GET THIS!! The basic "Gardner membership" is only $35 and gets you 15% discount on pretty much all merchandise and GROCERIES! Prices are a bit high on a lot of the grocery items since it is basically like going to Disneyland and you don't have much choice unless you want to drive all the way to one of the towns on the edge of the park.

only rained at night and the day we left so we were happy. Stopped at Silverwood in Idaho on the way back for a day before coming home.

Now I have to go back to... ugh... WORK tomorrow.

Sounds like a great trip! Glad the weather was so cooperative. I hope to make that trip myself in the next couple of years.

Oh, one thing more. YNP is not dog friendly. Dogs are allowed but you can't take them on any paths or boardwalks for obvious reasons. There are no places to run them off leash or anything so we felt bad for our 2 mutts being stuck in the trailer all day and won't bring them the next time we go.

Yikes! Never would have thought to ask that one.

Maggie and Bailey say thanks.

They give you a list of boarding kennels when you enter the park but there are none actually in the park. With the elevation the temp never got over 25c so they were comfortable in the trailer but they were so ready to play and run when we got them out but they were on leash the entire time.

We just got back from Yellowstone 2 weeks ago. I fully agree with the lack or inability to run the dog in the park. We just stopped at the bathrooms and let ours do the business, then back in the cab she went. We just made sure she got exercise early in the morning and late at night when we got back from the park.

We stayed at West Yellowstone KOA then visited the park and the Grand Tetons from there. What an awesome experience. Hope to do it again someday.
