Yet another hurricane to deal with

I moved my OFF-ROAD POPUP to the south side of the house next to the garage. We will keep our car and my 4x4 truck here as well. My jeep may be in harms way but it isn't running now so had to leave it sitting there next to the woods with a whole bunch of 100-foot trees along the woods line of our property.

We will use the POPUP for house support here like we did during IRENE. Kinda neat to route a couple of extension cords into the house to use. Also the OTA antenna worked out good too - All of cable TV and Internet went away when the county power went down. I use the Verizon MIFI unit here and they keep us in touch with the family everywhere. Pretty much done all I am going do around the house here today... I see the storm feeder bands already in the NORFOLK area. We suppose to start seeing 40-45MPH winds late tonight. Last storm our water stayed on but lost everything else. I forgot to check my bottled water supply in the POPUP and notice I only have one gal left ops.... I need my daily run of fresh made bean coffee or I am hard to deal with hehe... Mon and Tues will be our hard days to get past...

Conditions deteriorating now, very strong North winds, rain, and tides are rising. And we still have a couple days to go yet. The storm is still Southeast of Cape Hatteras and the barometric pressure is dropping. Looks like its gonna be a real mess.......

We were planning on leaving Maryland and heading to the Good Sam rally at Daytona Speedway tomorrow. That is not going to happen. If we have still have power and no significant damage on Wednesday we will try to leave then but it doesn't look very promising. Son in law works for local electric company and is expecting to be working 16 hr days for a long time.

Hang in there, Lee, you and your family, as well as all folks in the path, will be in our prayers for safety. So far, we have very little rain in the Shenandoah Valley, but wind is picking up. Hopefully the Blue Ridge mountains will dull the effects here.

Best of luck to all... especially to you Crabman out on Delmarva. Hopefully Sandy will have spun down a bit by the time she hits Lancaster County, but it still sounds like it could be a bumpy ride. Schools are all closed Monday and Tuesday. We've put away most everything that isn't nailed down, and since we went camping this weekend we have the RV here at home. Might come in handy if the power is out for a while - propane tank's full and we can run the genny if need be. What is it with these late October storms anyway? Last year it was that freak snowstorm... Oh well. Just gotta roll with it.

Thanks all for the good vibes. Raining cats and dogs now with winds gusting to 40, NNE. Expected to shift to NW tomorrow as the storm moves north which is what concerns me here. The water is pushed across the Chesapeake bay when the wind blows hard from the NW flooding the creeks on the western or bayside of the Eastern Shore (where we are). The NE winds cause flooding on the seaside or Eastern side of the shore, they got that today. I expect a mess at my business will await me after this is all over. The property where we live is good high ground even though its close to the water and it has never flooded.

They're calling for a lot of wind and rain here (60 miles north of NYC) as well as extended power outages. Schools are already closed for Monday and Tuesday, train service to NYC is shutdown as well. My generator finally came in so at least we'll have power through out this mess. Good luck to all getting hit.

Cold rain here now, calling for high winds. I have alot of tall oak trees to worry about.

We are hankered down for the storm, i charged all the batteries for the 12 volt lights and moved the 22fb out from under the oak and maple trees and parked it next to the house where it will be safe from any trees that may come down. next to the camper i parked the Bayliner to protect that also and did tie down the kayaks to the utility trailer. trash cans are put away and any other objects that can fly away are secured so when the winds pick up and the power goes out, and who knows how long that will be out for, i can fire up the propane frig. in the camper and use it for the house hold items.

Power just restored, been out 24 hrs. Crab house badly damaged, all floats,piping,wiring gone. Docks badly damaged. Much worse then any previous storm and this is just from a shore view using binoculars. Will launch a boat tomorrow to get a first hand asessment. Bayside communities suffered badly when the wind shifted to the NW and pushed all that baywater across to the Eastern Shore. The crabhouse next to mine collapsed and is gone, nothing left but a few poles. I heard about that on the radio but did not know if they were talking about his or mine so that was an anxious time until I got up with a local who could see the crabhouse and confirmed mine was still there, but nearly under water.

Here at the house a tree fell into a pile of crabpots and destroyed some. Limbs and stuff everywhere. I used the genny for the water pump, frig, and coffee pot. Coleman stove for cooking and fireplace for heat as it is in the 40`s here now. Thanks for all the concern and well wishes, we`ll get through this one as we have others.

So sorry to hear that Lee. The storm really devastated everyone along the shore line. It was bad here, but thankfully we had no significant issues. Hopefully you'll get things back in order quickly, there's a lot of damage from this one.

Thanks for the update, Lee. Sorry for your challenges, but glad all are safe. We had winds up to 51 mph here at the house but no damage, thankfully. Power even stayed on this time - go figure.

Man, I feel for you guys being in central Texas never had to deal with a hurricane, had my share Tornadoes and a lot of hail, but tornadoes have a tendency to jump around I've been lucky to this point have only lost one tree in years past. Good luck to all in her path. Stay safe

We lucked out here at the beach, Just this past Saturday was nothing but wind/rain but no real damage. Had the Jayco tucked beside the house to shield it from the wind. I feel for those up north who were really hit by this storm and all the damage left behind..just sad.

Family is ok, no house or property damage. Still no power, running off generator a few hours a day to make it bearable.

What am I missing. I would expect tens of thousands in shelters. I would expect to see a million Meals Ready to Eat (MRE's) along with bottled water and distribution centers. It's been 4 days and individual preparedness is running out. Bloomberg doesn't have the resources to yet remove all the dead from Staten Island and he's hosting the NY Marathon, WTH? Things are going to get desperately bad quickly. This is going to be worse than Katrina IMHO. We need Lieutenant General Russel L. Honoré and Giuliani like individuals.
