Some things you will need. first a dutch oven. Id suggest a 12 in. or a 10 in. We use the 10 more cause its just the wife and I most of the time, but a 14 is handy for larger crowds.
A pair of tongs for moving the charcoals, and a lid lifter, and a lid rest to set your lid when cooking, you dont want to set it on the ground. Thats about it.

Here are some recent Dutch Oven dishes... did the Chicken and rice a few weeks ago, and did the Pineapple Upside down cake this afternoon.

Both of these were prepared in the 12" DO. I picked up a 10" several weeks ago but we haven't used that one yet. Maybe next weekend...

I picked up a 12" and a Scout Cooking book on Amazon.

May not be the best quality but it'll do I reckon.
I'll burn off the seasoning and start from scratch--

I love my dutch ovens. I use them even at home, especially during the hot summer months here in AZ. It saves on our electric bill.

When we go on our yearly Thanksgiving campout, we use them to prepare the meal. I didn't have an oven so the DO was how I did my baking. It took some practice but now I can cook or bake just about anything.

Our DD was in Girl Scouts for several years. I was a leader's helper and in charge of the meals so it was fun to get the girls involved with the DO meals. On visitation day the parents were very impressed with how the meals were prepared and tasted. They loved the stacked DO cooking.

I am glad to see other DO enthusiasts.

We bought a Lodge (our first DO) at the end of last season after experiencing the miracles a friend of ours could perform in one. He used coals at the edge of a campfire and everything he made was perfect. My first attempt resulted in some mildy burnt spots, but I am trying to learn. He has a really neat tool for opening the lid when it's in the fire that I need to get.

Yep - it takes a while to get it down - but it sure is fun isnt it! The trick to not having burnt spots is to rotate the oven and the lid every 10 to 15 minutes (kind of depends on what you are cooking and how hot the coals are).

If you are talking about this --

Get one! They make life much easier.

That's exactly what I'm talking about - I'll get one next time I swing by the Lodge Outlet store - It's only an hour to and hour and a half away

You should test the temp inside oven maybe it needs temp adjustment. Our oven is dead on temp wise. We bake cookies, make bread in it, you name it.

I have 2, one 10" for deserts Cobbler, cakes, brownies etc.
I love the blueberry pie filling with brownies on top!

The other one, 12" is for savory dishes, main meals, pizza lasagna.
Both are Lodge, I use a small old Radio Flyer wagon for my cooking table.

I was a Boy Scout, you learn to make good food or go hungry!

Jim I keep an 8, 10,12,and 14 in oven at our campsite. I have a 2 burner Camp chef stove/table and use the optional cast iron griddle as my table. I am gonna fry fish in a couple weeks and will probly whip up some corn bread in an oven. I am trying to get more intrest in the ovens in our campground so we can swap recipies.

I use a search engine to find my recipes, most of the Boy Scout recipes are good, simple and fool proof.
I have used acouple of recipes from here.
