Big Green Egg???

Are they worth the $$$? I know some people swear by them but it sure is alot of money to cook! My Aussie seems to do just fine.

Google it. They seem pretty cool. Porcelain lined grill that is green and sorta egg shaped. The big problem is that they are around $700.00! OUCH!!!

They hold heat really well, and it's said that because it takes so little charcoal to cook, a bag of charcoal will last a long time. But they are also heavy, so take that into consideration.
I know a lot of people swear by them, but I can't see spending that much money on a charcoal cooker.

The green eggs are really efficient. I don't have one but have seen them in use. I personally use a weber smokey mountain (WSM) smoker with wonderful results for less than half the price (as well as weight). Here is a great website for the WSM. We have used ours and fed 2 dozen neighboring campers while doing so.

It will last a very long time, no rust. The temperature is easily maintained and cooks evenly with a great smokey flavor and uses very little charcoal. Ribs do not have to be pre-cooked in the oven or boiled and come out perfect with minimal preparation. We love making brick oven pizza on the indirect heat plate setter. The Large egg weighs 140 pounds, the small one weighs 65 pounds so they are a bit heavy for camping.

They are really nice for a home grill, around the pool, or on a deck. I think they are to heavy and bulky for camping, not the most portable thing IMO.

Kinda like a zero turn mower for me, will never use a tractor again.
That's the BGE. Never will i ever buy anything else. Not that I will need to, it will last forever. I bake bread, make wood oven pizza, can sear a steak at 800 degrees, cook a brisket at 210 for 20 hours. And I use about 2 bags of natural charcoal a year. And I live 20 miles north of Florida and grill year 'round.

Late to the party, sorry... I see BGE and i have to chime in. I have 2, one for the RV (MiniMax) and one i use in competition, XL. The MM is 96 LBS and fits in the basement of my Seneca. I keep that and an 18" blackstone griddle. Rarley cook inside, and when we do we use an instapot.

If you have deep pockets and really enjoy outdoor cooking, a Green Egg is a fine cooker and will do everything that you want and expect from a premium cooker. IMO, not very practical for RV'ing. Whatever you cook on, either on your patio or in the campground, requires practice, patience and a little experimentation. In the end, you can become accomplished on whatever you cook on. I've seen competition BBQ contests won on homemade smokers and Weber kettles.

You can roast, grill, bake and smoke on them. Easy to control the heat over long periods of time for proper smoking or cooking. Last grill you will ever purchase because of the lifetime warranty. Love mine...don't take it camping though. Even consumer reports answered the question are they worth the $$. Especially since many copy cats have come to the market....consumer reports answer was YES, nothing else holds temperature like a BGE. I concur.

I have a Kamado Joe, which is the Green Egg's competitor.

Absolute joy to cook on, I can put a small amount of charcoal in it and maintain proper temperature for over 8 hrs easily while smoking meat. Can also run it up to 600F+ to sear steak, can cook pizza in it, can use it as either a conventional grill or as an indirect smoker.

They are expensive but you can cook pretty much anything on them and the fuel efficiency is incredible. They are also extremely heavy, couldn't see the size I have being used for camping unless it was a long-term situation, but they do make smaller versions.
