Garbage Can turkey

Anyone ever try a garbage can turkey? We put tinfoil on the ground with a steak strong enough to hold a turkey. Then you cover the turkey with a NEW metal garbage can pressing firmly into the ground to make seal. Then dump charcoals on top and around the side. Light up the coals and In 2 hrs you will enjoy the best moist turkey ever!!

I have pics just not sure how to post them!

We were camped in NC a few years ago and a group was fixing Turkey that way.

It is novel but does not appeal to me on many levels.

The "stake string enough to hold a turkey"
Is that a live turkey or a dead one you are staking under there?

I'm not sure 15-20 ? Was probably the biggest one the supermarket had. We have a lot of people to feed at camp! We do season the turkey before hand. And you can't open the can at ALL just wait 2 hrs and it's done. No peekng!

I really like my turkey cooker but this looks real interesting. One question, how long until the grass grows back?

K&L, I've never done garbage can chicken but I've done lots of other meat smoking such as beer can chicken, etc. An excellent site for smoker cooking is the:

http://www.virtualweberbullet.com/

Don't get hung up on the focus of the site being about Weber's Smokey Mountain Cooker. The recipes and techniques work well regardless and since this GCC is much like 'low and slow' cooking, it should work there too. Try some of the rubs from that site. They are really good.

When galvanize gets too hot it puts off a poisonous gas. Will this gas contaminate the turkey?
