Healthy Snacks

Can you please recommend some pretty healthy snacks to take along in the travel trailer? I get tired of the same ole foods.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

I always try to eat some vegetables to go along with the beer an UNhealthy snacks that are my mainstay when camping. Carrots, celery, cherry tomatoes etc.

Do you happen to own a dehydrator? If so, there are a ton of healthy snacks that you could prepackage for yourself to take along for your trip. My favorites are banana and apple chips and homemade jerky.

I resisted buying a dehydrator for years thinking that it would be too much work. But we just love using it now.

We always take a bag of miniature carrots and some peanut butter.

Also, consider some kind of trail mix. Watch out for high sugar mixes, get one with lots of seed and nuts.

Hummus and cut up veggies are a staple with us. Homemade salsa is another one, but the scoops corn chips can lower the heath side of it. Better than sugar IMHO though.

I travel with trail mix as well. Not the ones with chocolate or M&M's. Just nuts, seeds, and some varieties with dried fruits to which we limit.

Fruit is always on hand and in multiple varieties. Frozen and fresh.

Turkey, avocado and roasted red pepper rolls are ones I like too.

Almond butter is a good substitute for Peanut butter, just get one like in Costco with no sugar added. (allergy in our house) Great with apple slices.

We're very partial to peanuts and raisins mixed together. We get big containers of peanuts at Walmart for a reasonable price, and mix in the raisins in a tupperware container. Shake well.

Peanuts were my go to snack for years. Unfortunately, one of my daughters developed a severe nut allergy about 12 years ago. Haven't been able to eat them regularly since. Needless to say, I really miss/crave them at times.

If I am going to be away from her for an extended period of time, I'll sneak some.

My DW is alergic to all legumes (peanuts, soy, lentils, and beans in general), so sometimes finding a verity of snacks can get challenging.

Our standard go to items, seasonal fruits, such as strawberries, raspberries, grapes, and the like.

We also commonly bring a long a block of cheese and crackers. We do and lot of hikes, and these things pack nicely. There is usually some granola bars or the like, in the tt.

Historically we have had popcorn too, but our son has braces, and loves it, so we leave it at home, so not to torture him.

Interesting side story. With my daughter, we have been extremely careful of all nuts since her diagnosis. We've only had a few reactions over the years, generally due to accidental cross contamination.

2 Thanksgivings ago, we were sitting on the couch watching TV and pulled out a brand new bag of baked chips with a big label stating "peanut and tree nut free". Well my daughter ate the first chip and immediately starting screaming and within a few seconds went in to full blown anaphylaxis. So, we hit her with her epipen and took her to the hospital as we always do after a severe reaction.

Sure enough, the chips had lentil flower in them. Foolish us for not seeing that in the ingredients but didn't realize at the time how severe of a reaction she could have to all legumes.
