Well, we use to make it when I was in the Army is you will take a 25 gallons of water, bring it to a rowing boil, throw the coffee grinds into the water and let that cook for 5 minutes, take it off of the burner and throw about a quart of cold water in the middle of the pot and all of the coffee grinds will go to the bottom and their you go you have some of the best hobo coffee.
Now I use those coffee pod in a coffee machine.

Hot, strong and black, just like I had it for 20 years on active duty.

The first station house that I worked out of as a young paramedic had a guy that was "in charge" of the coffee. Nobody would dare touch it except for him.
In all of the time that I worked there, I don't think that he ever changed the grounds during a shift. He just kept piling the new grounds on top. By the end of the day, it was this dark nasty brew that was just awful. But, it would certainly help keep you awake toward the end of a long 24.

We have Keurig Mini Plus, which is only 5 inches wide and stores nicely in the cabinet when traveling. We also have an aluminum percolator (in case there is no power) that we can use with our portable propane grill as needed.

After the second cup, a good glug or two of Christian Brothers Brandy or R&R will cure what ills you.
I do not like to ruin good Crown Royal with coffee. I drink Crown with no ice straight.

I had a tent camping trip with the Cub Scouts last weekend (my son's first). I ordered some of the Starbucks Via stuff from the Jungle (it's decent enough in a pinch), but the order didn't deliver in time for departure. So I stopped by the camper on the way and picked up my old percolator; we keep it in there for emergencies or boondocking. I made the best pot of percolator coffee I've ever made that next morning. Had it on my Whisperlite about to start perking when one of the other dads came over and was jealous I was going to have fresh, hot coffee. I said if he had a cup, I'd pour him some. Turned out I was glad he didn't have a cup; it was so good I didn't want to share!

Lots of newbs on the cub scout campouts. Tried to offer advice when we could, but you can't see everything. Heard about the family that left their food on the table, and the watched out the tent window while the racoons ate their food. Or the webelo who woke up in the middle of the night with a racoon on top of him eating his snacks. Could go on with many more like these.

Wife and I have tried so many different ways to make coffee French press, pour over, Keurig, drip coffee maker, and moka pot. What we found on our long search was nothing beats a percolator. We have people drink our coffee at home and ask how we make it.

Oh yes, I have PLENTY of those kinds of stories. In a few of them, I'm the "guilty" party (victim?). But to be fair, Raccoons can be tricky little critters... I've won some, they've won some ... and the game continues...
Thankfully, this is a good group of adults with at least some amount of experience. I didn't see anything overtly ridiculous this trip. The guy who I might have given a cup of coffee to was about ready to leave anyway. Though he did freeze his butt off because he gave his sleeping bag to his kiddo and slept the rest of the night in a t-shirt. It got down to about 48. My son and I were nice and cozy in our little 25 YO Eureka backpacking tent...
And I think my old percolator has earned its spot in my camping tote!! Again!! It takes a bit longer, but it was sure worth the wait IMO.
FWIW, I actually used a grocery store brand's course grind that was designed for "cold brew". Maybe that was the trick? It was all I had on hand that wasn't a K-Cup or Espresso. Now I think I'll make that stuff a permanent staple for camping... DW didn't like it too much, but she's a bit of a coffee snob...

We've even started using a percolator at home. It really does make a good cup of coffee.

Oh... Raccoons are the smartest critters... They know how to unzip zippers, pop the tops of canned meat and have even toppled over a percolater sitting on the rock next to the campfire, for a drink of coffee...

I drink my coffee black and prefer to extract as much flavor as possible from the beans. We grind and do a pour-over. Perfect cup every time. In my opinion it's the best coffee with the least amount of work and cleanup.

Do they still make a filter for a percolator basket. I have not looked for one for years.

Just recently bought a Chemex coffee maker and gooseneck kettle. Probably the best coffee I've ever had. No more automatic drip for me.

We use the Miletta 6 cup pour over with the #4 cone filters. We boondock quite a bit and with this set up all I have to worry about is boiling the water. There are just 2 of us and 6 cups is enough.

Perc it. We only do this while camping and the flavor is so smooth. It's so good I'd like to do this at home, but the drip coffee maker is too convenient.
