We use a regular coffee maker as we are plugged in. My wife doesn't drink coffee and we ran out once and I tried to tough it out. I think it would be easier to quit doing crack or something. I seriously thought I was going to die. Totally threw m system out of whack for the weekend. I will never do that again. I don't care what it is as long as it is strong and black. gotta have it.

The one thing I learned from this thread is that we all love our coffee and "our way".
Isn't life great?

Being a bean coffee lover I use the Cuisinart DBG600B bean coffee grinder. I like this as it grinds and brews in around 5-minutes time and pours the fresh made coffee into a thermos type carafe. Then it shuts completely OFF. Keeps coffee hot all day long. The short time being ON is great for use with a generator when camping off the power power grid.
For backup I bring along my trusty ole COLEMAN stove top perculator and also a portable Mr Coffee bean coffee grinder that I can run from my 600W PSW Inverter.
We always bring along the same brand fresh bottled water that we like to use to keep the coffee always tasting the same.
OOPS looks like I have responded to this post already back in Nov 2011. The good thing is I more or less told the same story...

Coleman drip coffee maker, they have one hat runs on a 1 lb propane cyl or one that you can put on a stove. I have both of them and have used them both for our large family camping trips.

Yup! Me, too!
I purchased the same coffee maker for the RV that I have in my stick and brick residence.

Wow, thanks for the reminder. I just saw our old manual percolator in the barn at our other place a few days ago. I need to collect that thing for the new trailer.

Consider a COFFEE PRESS. Our son introduced us to this a few years ago and it is wonderful. At home we go to a coffee house each morning for a latte and when on-the-road we use the coffee press. You can experiment with different blends and strengths very easily.

I love all the replies - even a year later! I settled on using a Chemex brewer where I boil water in my blue enamel percolator first and then pour it over my ground beans. It is more work than I'm used to but I still can't figure out that darn percolator with coffee in it and I really like the Chemex. Makes it easy to re-heat and the leftover coffee doesn't get bitter.
We took a long trip through Utah (Bryce, Zion, etc) and since we stayed at 1-2 places with a hook up, I took my Nespresso maker and was one HAPPY CAMPER those few days. I'm begging for a small quiet generator but DH is a purist. He doesn't even like me to take my iPod and speaker on our boat.
Anyway, thanks so much for all the replies. We campers love our coffee, don't we? Especially with some Bailey's in it?

Thought about bringing my Senseo but not sure when we'll have electricity.
I will have the stove in the camper or the outdoor sidekick grill. When you don't have electricity, how do YOU make coffee? I like it really strong and the idea of the percolator messing up my new stove gives me hives.
Would love to know what YOU do!
Thanks, Kim

I use the same percolator I have used for 30+ years.
I put water ~1/2" below max fill line and keep at low heat temperature on stove to prevent boil over. Perk at low heat for about 3-5 minutes.

We use one of the enameled percolators too. Just like the previous writer said, water 1/2" below the bottom of the basket. I run the heat on high to get the water up to temperature, then once you hear the first perks, turn down to low heat and let it slowly perk away until it's as strong as you like it. Yep if you let it perk on high heat it does make a mess, grounds in the brew, etc. Been there done that!

Coleman coffee maker, best piece of camping equipment I've ever bought, must have my coffee. They work just like a home coffeemaker, but require no electricity.

I just pull off a sock, pour in half a cup of grounds, tie a knot in the open end and throw it in a boiling pot of water. Coffee anyone?
