Oven Temp.

Question.

Thanksgiving is coming up and we will be camping that weekend. I am pretty sure that we will be using our oven for the first time. What I would like to know is how do you guys (and gals) measure the temperature? There is no gauge on ours so I was thinking about buying one of those remote ones.

I thought ours did have a temp settings on the dial -- but I could be mistaken. Anyway, I also BBQ a lot, in the BBQ world we use a lot of the remote temp probes. The best one I have and use often is the Maverick ET-73. I know they have a new model, but this is the one I use.

Another tip about the oven in your TT, the metal heat deflector above the flame isn't very good at all. Very easy to burn the bottom of what you are cooking, especially if trying to bake. I have placed a pizza stone in mine to even out the heat. Works well.

You are correct, buy a temp gauge that hangs on the rack, Walmart, etc.. Mine is fairly close on the Atwood stove. Sometimes they can be tricky to get the pilot to stay lit

I have burn a few things in the oven. I would recommend one of those remote temperature probes. If I am baking rolls or something similar, I raise the tray to the upper rack location. I have not used my oven a lot, but if I needed the lower rack position something like an oven pizza stone would be a must. All of the heat from the burner is concentrated in the center about 1” below the lower rack position, which makes burning the bottom really easy to do.
