Wanted: Crockpot Spaghetti recipe

I want to cook spaghetti / meatballs or beef in a crockpot (or 2).

Does anyone have a tried and true recipe that will feed about 15?

Got to be a crock pot.

Everything at once? Pasta, sauce, meat? I hate to say this but as a Sicilian this is a scary, if not sacrilegious, proposition.

But if you insist my advice would be to cook the sauce, meat or meat balls together, add extra water and pasta later. Remember pasta absorbs fluid so you'll need water & red wine (not to much wine) preferably. Good Luck

Tried and true? Nope can't help you, just the previous info.

BTW not trying to be flippant but I've just never thought of trying to make pasta in a crock pot.

Thanks for the recipe. It looks like it will be the one.

We don't have any Sicilians in our camping club but if it's not good, maybe they won't ask me to host next time! LOL

Sicilians aren't all bad, some are very nice people. Glad you got a real recipe.

My grandmother was Italian and taught me how to make a few things. Yonkees, homeade pasta, homeade sauce, I just wish I would have had the opportuntiy to learn more from her. I'll never forget the homeade lasagna and meatballs for Christmas dinner. Then my grandfather amd I would always get our fill of beer and waffle cookies done in a cast iron iron on tje grill prior to dinner. It was always a 9 hr food fest, food coma for days

In my Italian grandmother's house, spaghetti sauce was called "gravy"

It's amazing what Italians endured when they started coming over in the early 1800's. I never knew just how bad they had it until recently.

that would be correct, it's gravy not sauce. And the pasta is served in a bowl with a tad of gravy then another bowl was set on the table full of the gravy and the meatballs.

Am I the only one who looked quickly and read that as "Crackpot Spaghetti Recipe"? :-)

Spaghetti Sauce either holds/freezes and reheats well, why not make ahead and then re heat in a Crock pot. I make a sauce every 2 months or so and freeze and we have about once a week. You will get better flavors if you can caramelize the meat and vegs with higher heat.

My Sauce is always evolving but is basically:

5lbs regular Ground Beef
4lbs Ground Pork
4 large Onins
8 large Carrots
10 Celery Stalks
12 Cloves of Garlic
half a bottle of red wine
5 large Cans of Crush tomatoes
(herb bundle of fresh thyme, oregano, rosemary, sage, and bay leaves) wrapped in cheesecloth for easy removal)
Salt and Pepper to taste.

Steps are Fry the meat in batches, then fry veg until caramelized and combine meat and veg in a large stock pot, use wine to deglaze frying pan and dump into pot, add tomatoes, and stir in S+P and Herb bundle. Simmer for 1 hr min or longer. When finished remove herb bundle.

You reminded me of my dad making Lasagna about once a year, it was quite a production, and he made it with tiny meatballs, like his mom taught him, she learned from his father and aunts (his not hers). I was the only one in the family to really learn the homemade sauce, and everything, the four cheeses, and all. I made it for Christmas dinner this year, had about 16 people over, it was a great time, took me two and a half days to make but was worth it. All you others, who wrote about Italian and Sicilian relatives and/or wives, it's so cool to hear the stories or just the recognition of their heritage, and mine.

Sad thing is my grandmother didn't have recipes, everything was made from memory, never measured and more than likely never made exactly the same way each time. Later in her life my Mom started asking her how she made things so she was able to write down a few recipes. Of course the recipes where written down as she was making or baking something that day so I'm sure there where many variations for each.
And my grandmother never really knew when she was born and the hospital records burned in a fire way back when. So at some point in her life she decided to make her birthday the same day as mine.

God rest her soul

We tried to get old family recipes from my MIL before she got down with Dementia. Not much luck. We did get a few but they were like, " a pinch of this or a couple shakes of that". Not very useful when trying to duplicate something.
We did get a few that were written down with names like, "Aunt Amy's Cheesecake". They are still staples.

Maybe someone could start a thread with original old recipes from their family.
