A/C-Heat Manual to Digital Thermostat
Has anyone changed their manual a/c-heat thermostat to a digital one. If so what part number did you use?

It depends on what rig you have. We need to know what model.

I went with this one - Very easy straight forward swap. Not sure what make AC unit you have or if it even makes a difference.

Most use a Honeywell battery operated unit from HD or Lowes. Go to you tube and search your brand of A/C unit. Follow the you tube instructions. Not the instructions in the box.

Not sure that would work. Most residential thermostats are 24 volt, where these rigs are 12 volt.
The Amazon link that Marc posted is the one most of us have installed.

I have installed two. you tube has installed 100's. The t-stat is nothing more than a switch. The internal battery operates the switch.

So, why is there a 24 volt transformer wired to the thermostat on R and C?
The battery is there to hold memory for the programs, in case the power is cut off.

There is no 24 volts involved. I have installed 2. The first one I installed was not programmable and was not back lit. There is no 24 volts involved. Go look at you tube. Take note that I said do not follow the directions in the box with the t-stat.

Most I have read up on require a modification to add a switch to allow 2 speed fan operation. I just went with the cColeman digital on both mine and it was a wire for wire swap.

YouTube is not the Bible. Many times you find folks doing things wrong and sometimes even dangerously wrong. It is a useful tool but definitely not the be all end all. The Coleman swap is much easier for someone with limited abilities and no modification is necessary.

Yep, I take caution when someone tells me to watch Youtube, and they seem to believe, "I saw it on Youtube, so it must be true".
Using the digital Coleman, and doing an exact wire to wire swap, and all functions (like dual fan speed) stay the same, is the BEST advice.
