Pull up any map and look for BLM or State Trust Land. I recommend purchasing OnXMaps Ap for your phone. It gives land owner info. The problem is you are in the big city and it could be a long ways to one of those locations. You are surrounded by the city limits of many suburb cities of Phoenix. On top of that you are surrounded by Indian Reservations which are off limits to that activity. Best bet is head toward Florence or Apache Junction.

More to keep in mind. ATV riding is only allowed on State Trust Land if you have a state permit. You can obtain that permit on-line at the State Trust Land Web site. If you are a snowbird you might get away with not having an Off Road Vehicle permit on your license plate but check because if you get ticketed it could get expensive.

I have no doubt that there will be some areas around town you can go to but be prepared for large crowds of ATV/UTV and dirt bike riders.

Keep in mind that the Phoenix Metro area is roughly 5 million people. At one time I could be in open desert in 30 minutes. Now it take over an hour to just get out of town.

The box canyon area out by Florence is a great area and RV and UTV's all over around there. Tons of trails. As CAG mentions get OnX Offroad and download offline maps that way you can find your way back as there are seriously miles and miles of trails out there and various technical abilities.
