Fuel gauge not reading correct amount

Last weekend I was dry camping in the parking lot while tailgating for the UW vs Utah game. My generator fuel gauge showed we were full, about 5 hours into it I ran outta fuel. I put 4 gallons in (after buying a $20 two gallon gas can [emoji35]) and she started back up and ran fine. The gauge still shows it as almost being full, but obviously it's not.

Anyone know how that can be fixed? IF it can be fixed?

Thank you in advance

Just as info, the specs. show the 355W to have a 27 gallon fuel tank. When I have around 5 gallons of gas in it, it doesn't even show any thing on the Gen tank gauge. I was told you need a lot more gas to activate the gauge to show any amount.

Can't help with the fuel gauge - but one suggestion would be to track generator hours. We get around 3 hours per gallon running the 8kW Onan generator, depending on load.

Or, flipping that, the genny uses approx 0.33 gallons per hour.

For comparison, our HondaEU2000 ran around 0.25 gph.

We ran about 7 hours on 4 gallons on what I would consider a light load. No A/C and 2 TV's going. When spring comes back around I'm gonna fill it up and see what the gauge says after I run it for several hours. My Honda 2000 runs about 6 hours on a gallon. That thing is SUPER fuel efficient!

Thanks for all the info guys.

Do you have the fuel cell full of fuel as well? When my 355w came in the factory had wired the tank level indicators backwards and showed my fuel cell full and gen tank empty. I went to pump some of the gas into the gen tank and there was nothing to pump. It was simply switching two wires on the back of the command center, 30 seconds and I was good to go.

Question, would only 5 to 10 gallons of gas in the Gen Tank show-up on the command center fuel gauge. Does your show up when it is that low? Mine shows nothing.
