Gas Leakng out the cap

Has anyone had this happen to them? I filled up the generator tank last time out. When we get home, we run the generator to run the air while we clean out the toy hauler. We ran it to almost 3/4 tank and still have gas leaking around the cap. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Could be the seal around the cap edge is not holding. Alternatively, the cap may have a breather valve that is stuck open. With either one a little sloshing either will cause a leak.

It leaks when it is just sitting still also. I’m thinking about replacing the cap to see if it stops.

Oops, I assumed that it leaked while running or traveling. If it leaks sitting still then a couple of other problems are possible. Gas won't run uphill so unless the tank is overfull that eliminates the cap.

The float in the carb may be stuck allowing fuel out if is a gravity feed and not a fuel pump model.

A hose or fitting is bad.

A crack in the tank.

Get some dry rags and wipe down the surfaces until you see it dripping out.

With more thought, I suspect a bad fuel hose or connection.

Sorry for the wrong suggestion earlier.

I appreciate the info. It leaks around the cap. We can see it leaking out cause it’s wet and runs down the side of the camper. That’s why we ran it to get the gas out of the tank some. Not sure where to start looking. I’m hoping it’s as simple as the fuel cap seeing how they are 9 years old.
