Grease or plastic ring

So we recently got a B&W hitch. Got it put together and all.

Trailer isn't here yet.

There is an option.

You can grease and then keep up the grease on the 5th wheel plate.

Or.

You can get one of these plastic rings that go between the hitch and the trailer pin plate.

Anyone have any comparison experience with this? Pros vs. Cons?

Thanks.

Go with the nylon ring. Grease is a mess and gets gritty. I have been using the same one for 10 years.

Someone told me that the ring for a B & W has to be a certain thickness that is less than the std rings. Check with B & W before purchase.

Nylon lube plate

The nylon lube plate is very good - they last for a really long time and no mess or dirt sticking to the grease Les

X3 on the ring!!!! Grease is a mess. I've never had any issues with the ring on my B&W. It's been on my Northpoint since it was brand new and I haven't worn it out yet.

I called B & W

They do say you "have" to torque the pin. If you don't, it isn't installed correctly and voids the warranty.

They also said the vinyl ring is no problem. Matter of fact they sell them too. They said the normal thickness is fine. Their's is 1/8. That seemed pretty thin to me.

Other than that, all seems right.

It is going to be fun though trying to find the correct level for the rocker arm. That is going to take some doing. Good thing you only have to set it up once. :-)

I use the lube plate. Mine is 4 yrs old and I just had to fix it cause it had worn the opening to the point where it would fall off the pin.

I just held it against the side of the pinbox and hit each of the center points with a hammer. It was enough to stretch them and now it is again tight on the pin.

I've always used the lube plate. If I walk within 5 feet of grease or paint, it's on me!
