Hard-wired Surge Protector

2021 Seismic 4113

Trying to locate the rig's transfer switch as I'd like to put the surge protector nearby. Google and removing panels hasn't allowed me to find it yet.

Also, if you put one in your rig, did you wire it before or after the transfer switch? My understanding is that before the switch will only protect the shore power line and after the switch would protect both shore power and generator supplies.

Located the transfer switch. It sits in the front of the forward campside storage compartment, behind the carpeted wall

I installed it ahead of the transfer switch. It is only protecting the shore power feed.

I ended up buying about three feet of wire that matched what was already in the rig to run between the surge protector and the transfer switch. It would have been tight using just the existing wire but there was some spare on the other side of the transfer switch that I could have used. Decided not to mess with that.

Pretty cool project. I also added a clear acrylic window to be able to see the status of the surge protector. Probably not needed with the Bluetooth function, but I like it.

An EMS is a "Surge Protector" but a Surge Protector is not an EMS.

This is what i did too and it has a little meter with all the information... the extra coverage of the genny is well worth it IMO... it does let you know when something is amiss...

Sorry Ranger 413!! I've been running around emptying my old trailer and had to drive down to Prescott, AZ to pick up the 359.. Thank you for taking the time and taking the pictures!!!

Nice/clean install!! I like your work. Definitely going to do something like this. I found it became tedious running cross country last year, and setting up for new locations every night/morning. If I can reduce the amount of "accessories" I set up for every location, it will help save time.... and the wife's frustration with me... hehehe
