Hello to you! Congratulations on the new-to-you Octane and welcome to the forum.
EDIT: It's not really a weight distrusting hitch.... but then again some folks don't really trust them. ;-) If you have questions about your Blue Ox hitch, just ask.

So you don’t think they are worth the trouble? Releasing the chain when unhooking scared the crap out of me!

OH, quite the opposite! I have a different brand of weight distributing hitch that has worked great for me for over a decade, but it has no chanis! I've never had any other hitch so I have no experience with chains used by some brands.
Weight distributing and anti-sway are absolutely the way to go for most people in most situations.

I’ve only used the equalizer 4 way weight distribution and anti-sway. It uses bars on an “L” bracket that is attached to the tongue I beams. This model doesn’t use chains for the weight distribution leverage. It comes with a handle that you can use to get the bars onto the “L” bracket, but I never used that. I know for me, I used to latch the coupler to the truck, then use the electric jack to raise the rear of the truck until the bars slide on with no effort, then let the jack back down. Reverse the procedure on detaching.
I don’t have an experience with any other brand of WDH, so can’t say which is better.

We like our Centerline WDH which uses the same principle.
