I have a 2014 octane that the frame has multiple cracks along with broken cross members. They are going to send a team to the dealer and fix it onsite. Has anybody else had this done?

How much load did you put inside? How rutted were the roads?

It takes quite a bit to crack/break these frames.

It's only for getting a few toys to the site over properly maintained surfaces.

Is Jayco willing to warrantee the repairs?

Even if they do, take a good hard look at how you use this toy. It is NOT a quad with 14" of suspension travel...

I towed a forest river to the same spot for five years with the same toy inside. No problems. Thanks for your opinion.

Personally I would not accept that they were going to "fix" it onsite. If the frame is that damaged and you are within warranty they should replace it. We had a Terry long ago (after fleetwood bought them) that had the I-beams actually crush about two inches. It was not overloaded; not abused. We suspect that it had a bad I-beam. The factory sent someone out; he looked at it and they took it on a flatbed semi back to the factory. The factory would not even tow it. They took the camper box off and put it down on a whole new frame and axles and sent it back. That is what I would ask for if it is still under warranty. If you build a thousand of something, one is going to be bad somewhere, unfortunately.

I noticed it about 10 days past the 2 year warranty, but it is not something that just happened. So far they say I nothing to worry about. That is why I have not pushed the issue.

I don't blame you for that. In that case, I would still ask some questions. Are they just going to weld the cracks and put the crossmember back in place? Are they going to reinforce the frame? With the way they are marketed, toy haulers should be able to handle back roads and some uneven ground without an issue. Good luck with the repair!

I have heard of other people having something similar done at a welding shop, paid for by JAYCO or even heard of people taking the unit back to Lippert for the repairs.

If you go over to rv.net forum there are countless threads and posts about frame cracks and failure. This is one of the few I have seen here but seems to me Jayco now uses Lippert frames like most other manufacturers.

Yes, it is my opinion.

My experience has been that every crack and broken-off part has been because the user (usually myself) has overloaded a system.

I've been keeping a bunch of tractors and several trucks operational by inspecting the frames, suspension components and operating arms whenever they are in for service or maintenance.

My old trailer got the once-over on the frame twice a year. The new one just as much.

So my real question to you is, "Why did you wait until parts were broken through before you noticed there was a problem?"

Didn't you notice any odd creaking or groaning when you stepped inside?

What about strange warps in the floor?

Some times when I would stop it smell like rubber but couldn't find it. It was wearing the inside of just one tire. When the tire blow I found it and it looked like a lip was machined into it. Never expected it to be the frame. I do wish I would have looked harder. In the two years I have had it I only put about 4000 miles if that. About half of that was with a Polaris rzr in it. I do have a steel fabrication business and say the welds under my octane are hideous.

And also my fridge cabinet split within the first six months and nobody believes that anything could have shifted. They did fix it.

I believe it. I don't like lippert frames, never have. A highschool ag student could weld better. Pretty much a butt load of surface welds. No penetration in the steel on many of them.
