Octane Ramp is heavy

It takes some effort to lower and lift the ramp. Anyone add blocked under the spring arms to increase torque? Maybe a 3/4 in block might help?

It would be helpful to know what specifically you are asking about. Year / model etc.

2018 octane toyhauler . Springs take some of the weight but it would fall if you let it. So I'm wondering if I put a small block under the spring arm to tighten the spring pressure, would it maybe help.

Can you replace the spring(s) with a heavier one? Maybe one designed for a heavier door.

Stock jayco rig, 3 springs at bottom on hinge. Just seems weak to me. Guessing by the responses, no one has tried.

Garage door mechanic here. Not familiar with your exact setup, pic or two is worth a thousand words. Chance I could help if I saw your setup. Maybe a link to your setup? Maybe a spring adjustment is in order.

Just a standard lippert spring assist. 3 springs on the hinge on the bottom of door. Nothing to adjust really, thats why I asked if it would make a difference if I put a 1/2 or 3/4 inch block under end of spring to give it a little umph .door isn't really HEAVY as much as it isn't BALANCED. its just not as pre loaded as I would like.

I added an additional coil at the hinge on my Talon 413T for the same reason. The door now needs a tiny bit of help to reach the ground. As with any coil spring most of the help of the spring comes from full open to about 2/3 closed. After that, there doesn't seem to be any additional help.

I converted a trailer I have that had cables and overhead spring to the LCI torsion spring hinge type. It is easy to add springs and the springs come in light and medium duty and are usually identified by a colored paint dot on the end of the torsion arm. As I didn’t know what tension I needed, I started with 4 of the medium duty springs and added until I was happy. I did add 1/2” pex to the end of the arms mainly so they wouldn’t rub and wear on the aluminum hinge. I have seen where people add more of a spacer on the torsion arm with what looked like cpvc pipe over the torsion arms, I saw this on a dealers lot. Something on the arm is probably best as the arms slide a little and might work a block out.

Bend, I noticed that. Have to tug it a bit to open, then around 18-24 " it will just fall if you let it.

rusty,
Thanks. Jayco says 3 spring is fine. You did what I was thinking about ( boost spring and protect aluminum).
