it will pull it up and down hills but the small block gas motors just don't have the ability to do those long pulls in the mountains... I mean flat ground as in no mountain passes... I did it with my 1/2 ton it works but failures start to show up in the coils.

I thought it was 8000 lbs 6000lbs should be no issue even in the hills... just don't let the cruise decide your speed you need to get the gearing correct for longer steeper pulls...

It will pull it just fine...
you don't say what gears you have hopefully you have 3.73's or 3.42's if you have anything taller than 3.42s you will really struggle.. 3.23 etc....

I tow my ~10000Lb dry toy hauler all over Utah with my 6.4L Ram 2500. I just got back from a loop up to Flathead lake in Montana, then down to Targhee in Idaho, and back home. It was 12864 the day we left. Did I slow down on some passes? Yes, but so did the diesel trucks around me. Not once was I stuck in the right lane with hazards running.
I think people forget the years of RVs running big blocks that were less powerful than today's small blocks. It's more about the chassis than the motor when towing with today's half tons.

yes but you have a gas truck built to tow they are different than the ones in a 1/2 ton no? and your gearing is much lower in the rear end... my 6.2L gas motor in my 1/2 ton pulled my T26 just fine.. but it wasn't built to keep the temps down on the motor the heat was crazy in there, causing failure of electrical parts... I could tow up the mountain passes and even accelerate no lack of power... just had to wind it up!

Sorry for the delayed response. My truck has 3.92 gears.
