Prepping for new trailer

We are waiting for our new trailer to be ready and trying to get a few things together.

Couple items I would be interested in getting opinions on.

Extendable review mirrors and surge suppressors for the power.

I have a 2014 Silverado CrewCab 4x4 and I am going to need extendable mirror I am sure.

I also assume I wouldn't even want to connect to power at a campsite without having a surge suppressor in place.

Anyone have any recommendations on either of these?

I would consider a complete EMS (Electrical Mgmt System) instead of a simple surge suppressor. The EMS will protect your unit from a number of potentially damaging conditions that the surge suppressor won't. I have a 30amp portable from Progressive Industries (Progressive Industries RV Surge and Electrical Protection industry lea) which is one of the more popular brands.

If you search the forum for "electrical management system" you should find a good number of threads with discussion on this topic.

X2 on the EMS. Has saved us from under voltage conditions.

X3 on the EMS, and it's saved me a few times too. I NEVER plug in without it. IMHO, Progressive Industries is one of the best out there. It's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Another vote for the Progressive Industries EMS. I decided to go hardwired mostly because it's one less thing to carry, setup and remember to take with me when I leave. It's your choice whether to use portable or hard wired but either way the peace of mind is with the investment.

I currently use Cipa slip on tow mirrors. They are OK, but I'm exploring the option of replacing my current mirrors with factory ones for better field of vision, and the same reasons as above. I'd rather not have to put them on and take them off each time I tow.

When I had a 1500 I bought a set of factory tow mirrors but that's more expensive option than getting a set of clip ons.

I'd also recommend one the Progressive industries EMS units. Hard wired or not is a personal opinion. I've had both. Not one of their SSP units....

Can't help with the Bow-Tie issue, I'm a Blue Oval guy. But about a surge suppressor, I second Progressive Industries as a choice. Their customer support is excellent! We've had 2, the first was a pole mount 30A. The second is hard wired 50A with a remote display.
I also second the choice of an EMS unit. Both were EMS. IMHO, worth the extra $$$.

^^ what he said. Although I will be using it for the first time (not at home) in a few weeks, mines hardwired. I bought the pup this spring and didn't book trips then like I should of, but have camped 2 nights, state parks/no power. The peace of mind thing will be big for me, think of it like a condom, you don't just stick your thing into anyone's outlet, do you?
