RV Fuel tank will not accept fuel

I have a toy hauler with built in onan and fuel tank. Sometimes I'm unable to fill the tank. it accepts quarter of a glass and i have to wait 30 seconds for next round.

Lots of previous threads on this. Some models have “roll over balls” in the neck of the filler hose. If your tank gets pressurized then the balls come to the top and the fuel won’t go in. Happens to mine when I try and fill over 4000ft elevation. When I take the fuel cap off, fuel starts pouring out of the tank.

I know on my talon I have to squeeze fuel in very very slow at the pump. Cant set the pump to fill for me because it's only about half of that. Wish there was a better way for sure!

This happens to me all the time at the gas station. I have to fill it slow.

But sometimes it doesn’t even accept low!

I removed the roll over balls but still have to fill slowly to get the tanks full. I found it helps to turn the fuel nozzle upside down, it takes fuel faster that way.

So what is the solution? I have the same issue on a Highlander 383H.

Today I used a 3 foot length of Romax wiring. After inserting the wire into the generator tank filler neck, I pushed on the wire approximately 15 to 20 times before dislodging the ball from the filler tube. Then I was able to add fuel to the generator tank.

i just found out the fix to this problem. about four inches in from the fill cap is a plastic cage that holds a single plastic ball i assume is for syphon theft. the ball only has about a 1/16th of an inch around the whole edge of the ball. the fix is to loosen and remove the hose from the filler neck to expose the end of the filler neck and pull out the cage and ball or just the ball. its a great idea to stop people from syphoning your fuel but there is very little space between the ball and metal neck. i have pictures of it if anyone wants to see what it looks like, just let me know i can text it to you or email them

I had the same issue. Removed the fill hose and took out the ball. Found a second one in the fill neck and removed it. Hoping this fixes the problem.

I fought with this for some time as well. Read the threads, removed the roll-over ball , which helped, but didn't fully correct. While under there I saw the fundamental issue on mine. The fill line does not go into the top of the tank, but into the side, hence when you start to get 1/2 to 3/4 quarters full (depending on angle of the tank when filling), the fuel in the tank starts to cover the hose inlet to the tank.

Only way around that I found was: 1st) do my best to have the fueling side of the camper on the high side if possible. 2nd) once you get 1/2 or above you will have to "baby" the fuel into the tank. Note, I have not tried flipping the fuel hose nozzle as suggesting in previous post. I will try that next time out as well. But from what I saw underneath (fuel hose going into side of tank vice top, I still think when the fuel level in the tank starts to cover that inlet hole you will have to slow down and let gravity push the fuel out of the infeed hose & into the tank until it levels out again.

Sounds like a vapor lock. The fuel tank HAS to breath to allow fuel to enter. Just like in a car. There's gotta be a vapor valve on top of the tank somewhere.

Glad I stumbled across this, I used an electricians snake rod to dislodge mine recently
