Side wall construction

I'm wanting to put a stainless steel folding removable shelf on the outside of my 222, can someone enlighten me on what size the wood studs are if they are wood and how far part should they be from jayco building the trailer if someone has had the experience in this area . I'm thinking of taking the inside wall one section apart to see but that might be time consuming but I would know for sure. I can push on outside and all to see but I sure would hate to drill a pilot hole and it miss something solid It looked like when I go to other side where frig, water heater equipment is on outside of trailer that its not 2x4,,it's like 1x3 studs. Is there any uniformity in the frame on other side does anyone know ? Thanks

I would be scared to reply. I also have a 16, 222. I noticed your mount of a tv above the pantry and when I checked mine, I could not find a stud any where close to that location. My 222 also came with the battery compartment that is located inside my storage area, not on the outside hitch location. Jayco must build each one different. I am new to this and finding it very confusing. The last time I checked the Jayco site they list the battery location outside on the hitch.

Contact Jayco with your VIN number and they can give you drawings. Typically the studs are 2 X 3 centering can vary. Normally using a stud finder on the inside walls you can locate studs. Good Luck.

Nice shelf. It looks like it folds down, does it come off for when you are towing or do you a way to fasten it down so that it doesn't bounce around going down the road? What did you use to seal the screw holes where the bracket attaches to the trailer?

Hi, yes it folds down and can also be taken off. the 1st photo is what it looks like not on the trailer. just touched the holes up with touch up paint brush like you buy for your car and than a dab of silicone around the holes. im happy with it and will serve its purpose very well. Im glad I got stainless steel. Now I can go to the next project.

Nice job. That looks very cool. I like the stainless steel finish.
How did you end up locating the studs? I've used a studfinder on the inside of my travel trailer and then transferred the measurements to the outside.

Yes, and also there is a plate I installed on the outside and one on the inside where bolts are that like sandwiches the sidewall. I only have about 15lbs on shelf at any given time. Its worked very well.
