Tongue Weight

Just curious if anyone out there has been to the Cat scales to weigh their Octane. I have a T31b model and the 1400 equalizer hitch which is the heaviest they make but my suspicion is that my loaded tongue weight will exceed 1,400 lbs since the gross trailer weight is 12,000.

I know I should hit the scales to know for sure but I have never done it before and the process intimidates me.

It is either to buy a TW scale or make one. Search the WEB and either method will show up. I use a Sherwin TW scale and only use it when my loading changes.

You weigh your truck with trailer hooked up, then weight it will trailer not hooked up.. Difference is your tongue weight.

The following JOF link will walk you through a CAT Scale weigh-in and how to interrupt/use the results (tongue weight, all weights, WDH adjustment, etc.).

My 2014 Octane T29A has a GVW of 11,950. Loaded with full fresh water, 103 gal, and 18 gal of gas has a cat scale weight of 8640#. Have a Onan 4400 generator. The calculated tongue weight is 1970# without any cargo. With 2 Harley dressers, ~ 2000, in the cargo area, the tongue weight is 1840# by my sherline 2000# tongue scale. I use a Husky Centerline and 1400# bars (heaviest they have) with our GMC 3500 SRW. No issues with over 50,000 miles with this combo. Hope this helps give you a idea of possible weights.

Thank you. I suspect my numbers would be very similar. I was wondering if having toys in the back would make the tongue lighter.

Just bought a 2019 Octane T30H with dual air, 5500 gen.
I have a Sherline scale and before leaving the dealer my tongue
weight was 1670 lbs. To heavy but when I loaded my Polaris
xp1000 (1800 lbs) in the rear the tongue weight was 1300 lbs.
Just right 11%.
