But it wouldn't be only on your unit if that is the case.

I am told at dealer they have had many fail over the course of the year, mostly in Class A motorhomes.

If mine failed to switch one time I would put in an outlet in its place and plug it in myself.

I just want to clarify something. I also have a PD52 but it works in reverse of how you have stated. It is only energized when the generator is running. After 20 second delay, you hear the contractor close energizing the electrical panel with the generator power. Basically the Contactor is a dual pole relay...it closes the circuit in both cases if it is energized or not.

I have have had 2 transfer switch failures since I started full time in August 2010. The first was an IOTA switch which was recalled after my failure in March 2012 and IOTA quit making the unit. This was with 24 months in service. The IOTA was replaced with a PD52 as mentioned above.

The PD52 failed in August 2014 after 29 months in service. Both failures occurred while on shore power. I never ever start the generator with shore power turned on or make a transfer with any large loads operating.

The failed PD52 was replaced with another PD52 as well as some burned wiring. So far it is still in service. Both failures happened at the house side leads on the transfer switches.

Here are pictures of both failures. The one on top is the IOTA.
