We're about to pull the plug on a 222 and I've been racking my brain about this issue. I purchased my truck in December and, at that time, had no intentions of getting back into the RV lifestyle. We had a great road trip with the grandkids this summer and my wife wants back in. Go figure. What I'm fighting is GCWR. I have a 2016 Ram 1500 Quad Cab, Pentastar V6, 3.55 gears with a towing capacity of 7400lb. However, GCWR is 12,900lbs. Below is how my math is working out.
Truck = 5500lbs with me
3 passengers = 365lbs
WD, and standard, hitch = 100lbs???
Tongue weight = 810lbs
Trailer weight dry = 5135lbs
Trailer cargo weight = 500lbs
Total = 12410

My experience is you'd better check your tongue weight. You'll likely be over 1,000 pounds, and your weights project hauling with an EMPTY truck bed... no gear, no pop in the upholder. Mind you, truck hauling and towing capacities are figured with a 150# driver and absolutely nothing else in the truck bed, console, glove box and minimal options.

When I haul my Harley ultra Limited (920 lbs) in my 222, my tongue weight is around 800-850 lbs.

2013 Ford F-150 FX4 with 3.5 Ecoboost. It towed perfectly this weekend for a hour and 1/2 trip without the HD Street Glide. I've had issues towing with the HD on a 3 hour trip. It would throw a 0299 code (turbo underboost) after about an hour in the hills of NY-17. She also threw the same code when towing a small 2,000# cargo trailer with the HD, so I might have an issue specific to my TV. Other than that, no other problems.

KLTK1, we have the 5.7L Hemi with 3.55 rear. I would not haul this set up with our TV. Just me. I am quite sure that 6cyl. is going to hate you. We have the same motor in our Chrysler 300. Great little engine, but not for me as a hauler. You also have to consider your payload number. We have our 1500 maxed out our payload capacity (1,600lbs.) with our loaded Jay Feather 23RBM and our cargo (including gas and occupants). It does not take much to top-out a half ton, even a well-equipped one. Our next move will be a 3/4 ton, if we get any bigger on the TT. If you are going beyond a small to modest ultra-light, go for the "beef."

Thank you. As it turns out, we decided to go with a smaller trailer (FR Flagstaff 23LB) and have to be honest, I'm far more relaxed about this purchase. At 3870lbs it's a full 1500lbs lighter than the 222 we almost purchased and fits well within the specs of the TV. Based on my initial calculations I should be at about 86% of GCWR. With the 222 I was lucky to be below 95%. We're picking it up next week and will know for sure how my truck handles it. I expect pretty well. First fuel stop we'll hit the scales to see exactly what we're dealing with too.

I just purchased a 17 222 a while back. Pull with my 14 CM 4X4 Tundra. Just went to North East Iowa and back home to KC. Pulled great, no issues at all. Gas mileage is what I would expect. I'm using a Husky 1000# TW WDH. It was loaded with 800# of bikes + gear.
We are loving the 222! Great Toy hauler!

I pull my Octane 222SL with a 2016 2.7 EcoBoost F150. Truck has a 6 speed, 3:55's, 1430lb payload and is rated to tow 7500lb trailer. Trailer weighs in at 8200lbs fully loaded with 2 Harleys and full fresh water. I am very impressed how well this truck handles this trailer. Tongue weight needs to be near 15% of trailer weight when loaded. Load toys as far forward as you can to keep weight on the tongue.

Hey, Biker. Any other shots of those RWL’s? They look cool. How are they holding up?

The tire decals are from a company called tirestickers.com. I paid about $140 for the whole kit. You can have it say anything in any color or font. I applied them when these tires were brand new 32K miles ago. The hardest part was cleaning the tires with acetone as per the instructions. The lettering is permanent and holding up very well. I just went outside and took this picture... truck is filthy.
My apologies to everyone else for going off topic...

Those look great. I just ordered a set of Coopers for my F150 because my favorite BFG KO’s aren’t RWL. Ugh.
Thanks for sharing!
