Winterizing my Octane 222 SL

I thought I would share my step by step winterizing method in case someone else out there is on the fence whether they will do their own winterizing or pay someone else to do it. I've done this the last two years and it works great! I've used the air method on other campers I've owned also.

Winterize Octane 222 Superlite

Drain fresh water tank, leave petcock open

Drain water heater

Go to RV dump, open both black and grey tank drains, jet flush the black tank, leave both drains open

Use 30 to 50 PSI air pressure for the following steps

Hook up air and blow out the black tank jet flush line

Hook air to city water connection

Shoot some air to flush the line to the hot water heater. You still have the water heater drain plug out so you will see air and water exit the hole. (I do this because I have a small section in the line right next to the heater that holds some water when bypassed).

Bypass the water heater

Blow out kitchen faucet (both hot and cold valves for this and the following steps)

Blow out bathroom sink faucet

Blow out indoor shower

Blow out outdoor shower

If you are anal like me, blow some air through the pump inlet hose that you normally use to suck RV antifreeze into the system, this will ensure pump is empty of water.

Blow out both faucets and both showers one more time

Open two low point drains valves in bathroom that are located under the sink cabinet

Close both dump valves

Dump a little RV antifreeze in toilet, both sinks and the shower

Feel good about all the money you saved doing this yourself and wait for spring to come!

Do you leave the low point drains open all winter or this a mistake. Wouldn't you just open low point drains while blowing out lines and then close?

Thanks for the write up. Nice little guide.

I did it exactly as I wrote it. I leave the low point drains open all winter. I'e always done it that way. But you sure wouldn't have too.

I’m in Seattle. It may get cold enough to freeze a few nights but usually not

Was wondering if you kept the faucets open after winterizing

I did. I don't have any reason why except that I hear most people do. It sure can't hurt anything.

Definitely leave faucets open. I didn't on my outside shower and condensate went down the line and froze, and yup, froze and broke.

Now I drain, blow out, run the red through and blow out. Fixing pex connections in tight spaces is not what I ever want to do.

I’m pleading ignorance, where is the water pump located on my SL222? Thanks for your post on winterizing, it went smoothly.
