1st Trip out with our Alante 31V - Not quite RV movie but...

Hello,

We took our first trip to a nearby provincial park.

I didn't run the fridge for 24 hours but 8 full of ice packs was usually good with the Greyhawk. We didn't want to have an extension cord across the side walk all night for someone to trip on.

Friday after work.
It was almost in the food safe zone when we left but didn't stay that way. Once the chill from the ice packs was gone it warmed up.

Saturday at the park.
Was disappointed to find it didn't get cold.
Measured about 50 F in main section and about 20 F in the freezers.

Went to get some ice from the park store nice 80 degree walk for about 1/2 mile which turned into 2 miles return because the park store was closed and I had to go to the registration building to get ice.

Almost back with the 16 lbs of ice when the thunderstorm arrived.
Wife got the dogs in but hadn't retracted the awning before it collapsed. Forward end of course so the funnel it created directed the water to to open door.

The ice blocks were too big to go on the upper shelf so sitting on the bottom didn't do much.

Reading light in the bedroom decided it would just turn itself on and off so I disconnected one of the wires.

The other odd thing was when I got up in the dark to turn off the bathroom fan switching it off caused the bedroom ceiling light to flash dimly.

When the storm passed I dragged the picnic table over (buying a ladder) and was able to extend the awning arm and then roll it in. Seems to be OK.

Oh and at provincial parks you apparently need to bring your own male fitting for the black rinse hose

Got a service appointment for June 9th, 10 days before our 2 week trip.

Regards,

John

Oh Joy,

Got a Dear John letter from the service department.

"Good afternoon,

Due to staff shortages and other circumstances outside our control, our service shop is currently over capacity and backlogged.

Unfortunately we regret to inform you we will not be able to work on your unit at this time.

Please reach out to our appointment coordinator to reschedule your appointment for a date during the week of June 13th to June 24th.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and we value your business.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation

Regards"

When I finally got someone they will take it in for an assessment on the 15th but probably not fix anything if it needs any parts.

Had to buy this.

Oh wow, not fun at all so I guess now that you can look forward for better days ahead this is just a misfortune. Can you repair some of the issue yourself?

I have one of the ice chests like that but it's smaller but so far how do you like your class A?

What fridge do you have? Call them directly and ask for mobile repair because dealer is not willing to work you in. Components are warranted by their respective manufacturers.

Hello,

I can swap out the light if I can find it online and put a dab of sealant at the corner of the shower track where there is a small drip. I'm sure I could swap the control board for the fridge if that is the issue I suspect but I have not reached out to norcold. (Will try that Grumpy)

I expected growing pains from all I have learned here it just sucks there is no reliable service anywhere near us. The other Jayco dealer isn't any better.

Gotta laugh, the portable fridge came yesterday and left today.

It got down to -4 C for both sides on it's way down -20. hit -7 on one side when the other died. It was completely dead in the morning.

Hopefully the wabban cx40 ordered from rv parts shop holds up better.

Oh and yes Big, we do like the RV a little noisy on some roads but pretty nice on the good roads.

Regards,

John

Send a message via Skype™ to Foretm
Did you try switching the fridge to propane to see if maybe the electrical heating element is to blame? I would try that, and also what is the location of the thermistor in your fridge? Have you tried moving it or checking to see if its bad?

An Update of the Norcold Saga

Following Grumpy's advice we found an authorized center and they took it in for about 10 days before we left June 18th for 2 week trip.

They did assessments Norcold asked for and were waiting to find out if Norcold was going to send a cooling unit or a new fridge.

I followed up when we got back to see how we were proceeding and we are not.

Norcold wants more tests?

Now the non-Jayco dealer is suggesting they have put enough time in, Norcold only pays them 1 hour to assess, and that I should take it back to Jayco dealer.

I am position 3 on Norcold queue as I type this to ask what is going on? Fridge is bad period.

Regards,

John

Well that was a waste of time 2 hours on hold then 1/2 to basically register the fridge.

Customer service can't do anything or tell me why technical support is not sending a part or fridge.
She gave me a ticket number for my call for the the service center (who has already washed their hands of it) to reference.

Wife is not happy with my purchase.

Regards,

John

Awesome, I love it when things like this happen, you have a problem sometime and we think that it's the end of the world but when sit back and take a breather and get it taken care of, glad it's working.
