2017 Precept 31UL

Good morning Forum. We are looking at a 2017 Precept 31UL and wanting to know if there are any known issues or things to look for. I know this is the first model year for the 22.5 aluminum rims but I'm unclear why it was left on the shorter chassis so any insight on this would be much appreciated.

We have rv'd for over 20 years and owned several Jayco TT's over the years so we are familiar with Jayco when they were a family owned business. It appears there haven't been many changes since being purchased by Thor.

Hoping to get back into the Jayco family! Thanks!

Make sure all of the recalls have been completed.

I have the shorter chassis (190") with 19.5 tires. Your chassis should have a somewhat longer wheelbase, along with the bigger tires the handling and ride should be better. That's why jayco told me they switched. Now the older chassis can be made to handle and ride much better than stock. From a manufacturing guy, they change very little on the box they add to the chassis from the two. Cheaper and easier for them and the 31 ul is a very nice design. Don't mess with success.

We have had our 2017 3ul for almost 3 years and have been very happy with it. As stated above, make sure any recall items have been taken care of. The one common issue that we've had that I’m not sure was ever an official recall concerns the windshield piers and motor. Many people, including us, have had issues with malfunctioning windshield wipers even to the extent of damaging the windshield. Although it wasn’t a recall issue Jayco did authorize the fix and replacement of the windshield under warranty. Of course, a 2017 would no longer be under the 2-year Jayco warranty so unless an official recall is done, any repair will be at the expense of the owner. Therefore, I would check to see if this was done while the 31ul was still under warranty.

Thank you for all the replies. It appears we won't be able to come to a deal after all so our search continues. One quick question though on the windshield wipers; is this issue confined to the 2017 model year or any in the Jayco line and how does one fix the problem?

Im not sure on the year specificity but after looking at mine (2018 all still original) I could see how those huge wipers coupled with the angle of the arms could put strain on the wiper motor. Especially if the wipers were dry rotted or the rubber was hard and they were activated on a dry windshield. I will replace my wipers seasonally now just in case. A lot cheaper that the windshield I'm sure
